How Will One Direction Spend Their Hiatus?

by Maggie Malach

It's a tough time for Directioners, as some reports claim One Direction is going on hiatus in March 2016. To make matters even worse, 1D reportedly won't tour to promote their fifth album, meaning the chances of seeing the band live are getting slim. While the most comfort I can offer you is a guide to surviving the One Direction hiatus, if you're wondering how One Direction will spend their hiatus, here are some possibilities.

A source told Us Weekly that "they’ll have a proper rest next summer," but will eventually get back together after their time off. The insider also added, “That doesn't mean they're splitting up at all. Even when Zayn was in the band they had been speaking about having time to focus on personal projects. They're one of the hardest working groups around and totally deserve some time to themselves."

According to The Sun (via Us Weekly), Harry Styles will pursue a solo career, but there's no word if he'll transition into a much-rumored acting career. However, the report of his musical expansion is pretty reasonable, considering Styles wrote with artists like Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor and Kodaline.

The Sun also reports that fellow 1D member Liam Payne wants to continue songwriting and DJing. Payne helped write a range of One Direction songs, so this is a pretty logical step for him. Under the name DJ Payno, he's remixed One Direction songs like "You and I," so it would make sense for the singer to continue to experiment with that side of music.

Niall Horan is reportedly looking into a solo career, which could be interesting, considering that he plays the guitar and could try an entirely new sound. Horan also wrote many One Direction tracks, so it would be a natural transition for him.

Back in July, news broke that Louis Tomlinson is expecting a baby with Briana Jungwirth, so it's not surprising that he'll be spending a lot of time with his new child. However, the Sun also reports that Tomlinson will join a new reality series, Be in a Band.

No matter what the members of One Direction do, here's hoping they do get back together after their hiatus. After all, Destiny's Child reunited after their three-year break.
