9 Most Chilling Moments From The 'Macbeth' Trailer

by Rachel Semigran

When it comes to Shakespearean tragedies, few are as chilling and unforgettable as Macbeth. The chance to play the role of the Scottish army general turned King is perhaps the highest honor for an actor, and in the latest adaptation of Macbeth, Michael Fassbender stars as the main character with brute force. The first trailer for Macbeth was released on Tuesday, and it shows Fassbender as a troubled King whose existence is filled with flashes of violence and emotional torment. What's most surprising about the trailer is how delicately Marion Cotillard plays Lady Macbeth, a role that is historically heartless and unscrupulous. However, knowing Cotillard's skill, it means her portrayal of the power-hungry queen may be all the more manipulative — she'll get into brain and his blood, quietly and methodically.

If you've ever taken a high school English class, then you already know how the story goes... but that won't stop you from wanting to see this movie. I'm going just to hear Michael Fassbender utter the line, "Who could refrain, that had a heart to love, and in that heart, courage to make love known?" There's a reason why Shakespeare's work is still being produced all of these centuries later, and why the film industry is buzzing so hard about this new iteration of the Scottish play — it's just that good. Take one glimpse at the trailer and the stunning performances by Fassbender and Cotillard, and you'll be ready to... jump on bard (I'm sorry, I had to).
