ModCloth Hopes To Open Its First Brick & Mortar

by Jessica Thomas

ModCloth, the e-commerce store with vintage-inspired clothing and accessories, has been a haven for vintage lovers on a budget since it opened in 2002. After years of waiting, the announcement customers have been waiting for since day one finally came. ModCloth is planning to open its first permanent store (hopefully) in 2016, according to Fashionista.

The site's explosive growth since it was founded can be attributed to aggressive growth strategies and a commitment to maintaining the community of the website and store. The founders have said they wanted the site to be "bigger than a fashion retailer," and its scores of loyal fans prove that goal has been met.

ModCloth has also committed to social issues, and collaborated with Hollaback! to take a stand against cat-calling. The company has been expanding since it hired Matthew Kaness, former chief strategy officer at Urban Outfitters, as CEO in January. Since then, it launched an in-house line and opened a pop-up store in LA and a "fit shop" in San Francisco at the company's headquarters. There, customers can try on items from the website and have them shipped directly to their homes.

CEO Matthew Kaness also told Fashionista that the company will "have stores in a lot of locations nationally, not just regionally." How exciting is that?!

ModCloth's lines have slightly veered from a strictly vintage look as the brand evolves, but its fall line has a mix of vintage-inspired dresses and whimsical pieces. Here are six new items I personally cannot wait to not only try on and see, but also buy in person. Eek!

1. So Foxy

This adorable green sweater is whimsical and playful, and would make the perfect quirky addition to your weekend wardrobe. Smooch Mooch Sweater, $64.99, modcloth.com

2. Black & White Beauty

This dress toes the line of being vintage-inspired (the full skirt) and modern (the plunging neckline). Throw on a pair of tights in the winter and it'll get you through every special occasion through 2016. Celebration Elation Dress, $64.99, modcloth.com

3. Plum Pretty

This simple plum dress is a great silhouette and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. It's perfect for the office. Plus, how cute is that brown belt?! Teaching Classy Dress, $64.99, modcloth.com

4. Coat Of Your Dreams

This forest-green coat is classy enough for an evening event and simple enough to be worn every day. It would look just as good over a dress and heels as it would over skinny black pants and booties. When Operatunity Knocks Coat, $159.99, modcloth.com

5. Flora & Fauna Fun

This navy dress, with its fit-and-flare silhouette and tropical fabric, is classic ModCloth. It feels a little summery for cool weather until you realize it's just the dress to get you through the dreary days of winter (with a cardigan and tights, of course). So Very Fauna You Dress, $69.99, modcloth.com

6. Waffles For The Weekend

Looks like you have your brunch outfit picked out for the next four months. This cheeky T-shirt is perfect for lazy mornings when you want to throw on leggings and a cozy sweater and hit up your favorite breakfast spot. Life in the Breakfast Lane Tee, $29.99, modcloth.com
