Is There Still Hope For Selena & Justin?

by Nicole Pomarico

As adorable a couple as they (occasionally) were, I wasn't bummed at all the last time Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber broke up. Despite the fact that both of these people are total strangers to me, I have a lot of opinions about their relationship... and none of them are good. Gomez, who seems like a very genuine and sweet person, had her heart broken by Bieber way too many times, and with his track record of being a douche, it was easy to take her side in the breakup. These days, she's seemed way happier without him, and after her fling with Zedd, I thought reuniting with Bieber was officially out of the question... 'Til now. Bieber made a Gomez reference in his "What Do You Mean?" music video, and now, I'm wondering if there's a chance Gomez and Bieber will get back together after all.

If you have no idea what reference I'm talking about, that's fine — I totally missed it 'til it was pointed out to me. Gomez's name is written as graffiti on a wall behind a bunch of skateboarders, and that definitely was no accident. I have so many questions: Does this mean Bieber is pining for Gomez? Does it mean the song is about her? Does it mean they're going to date again? Does it mean they already are?!

We may never get a definitive answer to any of those questions, but judging by what Gomez has said recently, it sounds like there's no possibility of that happening — although I definitely would never say never (sorry, lame Justin Bieber joke).

When talking to Sunday Times at the end of August, Gomez was pretty clear about having moved on. She said:

It's difficult for people to separate us. The internet wants to freeze this moment in time and constantly repeat it. I didn't think I was doing anything bad by falling in love. There's such an emphasis on people being the perfect thing and then destroying them because it's good press. Throw in the fact that you are a teenager — it makes it more difficult.

And then, there are also rumors that something might be happening between Gomez and her other ex, Nick Jonas. And let's be real: If she's going to rekindle an old flame, it should probably be with him instead.

Obviously, just because Gomez doesn't seem to have feelings for Bieber doesn't mean that Bieber doesn't want her back. Actually, I think her name in the video is pretty clear indication that he does wish they'd get back together. Will it actually happen? Not if he can't win Gomez over the right way this time, and by "the right way," I mean release a killer album, prove he's made a 100 percent turnaround, and probably hang out with Ellen DeGeneres some more.

For the sake of humankind's mental stability, I'm hoping none of us live to see a Bieber/Gomez reunion — or, even worse, an eventual Bieber/Gomez wedding. OK, so their children would be beautiful, but ugh. I can't handle this anymore, and I have a feeling Taylor Swift can't, either.
