'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 3 Trailer Is Here

The one good thing about summer coming to an end? New TV, and after a startling Season 2 cliffhanger, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Season 3 premiere is at the top of my must-see list. The first S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 trailer promises a darker season ahead as Daisy (Skye has officially been retired) leads her own team of Inhumans, Fitz starts carrying a gun, and Mack still can't reconcile working with people like Daisy and Lincoln. Then there's the whole Simmons being swallowed up by an alien rock thing to contend with — seriously, is Simmons going to be OK? The trailer isn't forthcoming on that point.

The biggest reveal of all involves a new villain, Lash. The guy looks like a beefed-up version of Raina, but in the comics, he is the Inhumans version of a chosen one, and he is not fan of every Inhuman coming into their powers. In fact, he appoints himself judge to determine whether or not a Inhuman is worthy of their powers. He could end up being a good guy, but his brief appearance in the trailer suggests he's going to be one of Season 3's bad guys... at least for awhile.

Those are just a few of the promo's reveals. Let's get this speculation party started and take a look at what might be ahead on this season of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Daisy Is A Certified Action Hero

This is Daisy and she's here to save you. Daisy has officially dropped her old name Skye, suited up in an actual hero's outfit, cut her hair, and transformed into a full-fledged team leader. I have no idea who the Inhuman she is reassuring in this scene is, but he appears to be a pivotal part of the first episode back. Either that or he's just a good way to introduce a new, harder, more experienced Daisy. After her mother turned out to be evil and her father prevented her from committing matricide, the Skye we once knew is definitely no more, but I can't help but wonder how long it will be before Daisy's emotions start catching up with her.

Fitz Means Business And He Gets Kidnapped

With Simmons missing, Fitz is looking more determined and solid than he has since he was pulled from the water. In the promo he's carrying a huge gun, but there's no hint about who or what he wants to use it on. Fitz also gets kidnapped, but it looks like this could be a strategic move on his part. Maybe Fitz has found people who have the equipment needed to get Simmons back.

Mack And Lincoln Aren't Playing Nice With Each Other

It is no secret that Mack isn't a fan of the Inhumans. He has Daisy's back, but that is as far as he seems to be willing to go. He is staying on at S.H.I.E.L.D. out of a sense of duty, but he is not adjusting well to working with Lincoln. The two men are seen squaring off in the promo, and that has me wondering what it will take for these two guys to trust that they are working for the same side.

Secret Warriors Are Coming

Daisy's team is the Secret Warriors. That whole code name "Caterpillars" in the Season 2 finale was leading up to Coulson and Daisy starting a super-powered faction of S.H.I.E.L.D. to deal with any alien threats that may come along. Now that Daisy's team is a reality, there should be new characters and some major world-building ahead.

Meet Lash

The promo sets Lash up as the bad guy, but given the obvious experimentation going on in another scene, I am not 100 percent sure that Lash is the season's big bad. Her certainly looks intimidating, though, and if he does appoint himself judge of the Inhumans, stopping him won't be easy. Since his abilities involve power absorption they should negate Daisy's earthquake powers. Nothing good can come from this.

Short though the promo is, it has me psyched to see what is ahead in Season 3. Luckily, I won't have to wait long to find out, as Season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres Tuesday, Sept. 29 on ABC.
