8 Pretzel Recipes For Every Oktoberfest Party

by Emily Kelley

When I was 16, I spent 10 days traveling with a school group in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Aside from the amazing historical sites, trendy shopping, and scenic drives, my favorite thing about the trip was getting to experience the unique cuisine — including some incredible pretzels! And with Oktoberfest upon us, here are a few Oktoberfest pretzel recipes that will make your party even more delicious.

Pretzels are one of those foods that are just as yummy when they’re savory as they are when you make them sweet. I’m particularly partial to salty, soft pretzels thanks to many a childhood summer Dodgers game, but I got turned on to sweet pretzels while visiting the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. It’s a bit of a hike to the castle, and when we reached the top I was starving. But since I’m the first to admit I’m a picky eater, the only thing I could get was a cinnamon-sugar pretzel — and it was one of the best things I’ve ever had in my whole life.

Pretzels are still popular fare in Germany and a mainstay at Oktoberfest celebrations around the world, so really, the hardest thing will be choosing which of these delectable recipes to make.
