How Do You Get Snapchat Trophies?

by Eliza Castile

Now that the puking rainbows feature is no longer around to distract us, we've all been wondering the same thing: How do we get Snapchat trophies? Lenses are all well and good, but as much as we all love sending heart eyes to our loved ones, there's more to the new Snapchat update than the ability to make ridiculous faces. Not that making ridiculous faces isn't great, but, well ... let's broaden our horizons, shall we?

That being said, we don't actually know a whole lot about the Snapchat trophy case. Snapchat is remaining surprisingly silent on the subject. The app's support page merely states that "the more you explore Snapchat, the more opportunities you'll have to earn trophies," going on to give examples like reaching a certain Snapchat score or sending stories from Discover. Apparently, they're largely leaving it up to us to discover on our own, which is absolutely infuriating for someone who has to know everything — i.e., me. Fortunately, the Internet is currently doing what it does best: Collecting a bunch of objectively useless information about social media. Because what else are we supposed to do with our lives?

After much careful research — aka playing around with Snapchat and sending my sister millions of weird, zoomed-in selfies — I've put together a list of ways we know to get Snapchat trophies so far.

1. Update Your App

Seriously. You don't actually get a trophy for updating the app (which is why I'm not counting it as one of my five ways to acquire these suckers), but you can't collect said trophies if you don't apply the update. So go do that first.

2. Send A Video

I got a VCR trophy just for sending a video snap. At least, I think it's a VCR. It's been a while since I saw one in person.

3. Send A Picture With Five Colors Drawn On It

Don't ask how I found this out. I like really colors, OK?

4. Accumulate Points

I have a fancy shooting star trophy just for hitting 10,000 Snapchat points. I can't decide if this is cool or hideously embarrassing.

5. Send A Picture With One Filter

If you send a picture with a filter, you get a trophy with the finger pointing up, pictured above.

6. Send A Video Front-To-Back

Once again, don't ask how I figured this one out. If you take a video starting with the front-facing camera and switch to the rear-facing one, you get a "rewind" trophy.

Wojdylo Social Media published a post back in August detailing how to get each trophy. So far, it's matching up with the trophies I've accumulated. Unless Snapchat breaks its silence, though, it looks like we'll be stuck with trial and error.

Happy snapping!
