How Alike Were Seth & Ryan From 'The O.C.'?

by Kaitlin Reilly

Chandler and Joey. J.D. and Turk. Cory and Shawn. The world is obsessed with so-called television "bromances," but perhaps the one that warmed my heart the most was the one between The O.C. 's Seth and Ryan. Their bromance was the classic tale of the rich comic book geek befriending the tough kid from the wrong side of the tracks: they may have been from completely different worlds and interested in vastly different things, but, at the end of the day, their friendship was solidified over video games, the love of diner food, and, of course, Marissa and Summer. Seth and Ryan started out as strangers, but they quickly became ride-or-die brothers. Forget Ryan and Marissa: it was Seth and Ryan's friendship that was the real reason to watch The O.C.

The interesting thing about Seth and Ryan's friendship was the fact that they seemed so vastly different. Seth was the target of bullies, while Ryan was their sparring partner. Seth didn't have the nerve to talk to the girl he pined for since elementary school, while Ryan told Marissa he'd be whoever she wanted him to be within seconds of sharing their first cigarette. But were Seth and Ryan complete polar opposites? I'm not so sure.

Naturally, I had to break it down, because, while one was Newport and the other Chino, these two became brothers for a reason.
