Kate Winslet Is Excited About Turning 40

by Sienna Fantozzi

Continuing to be the most body positive actress ever (and seriously defying all age expectations), Kate Winslet covered The Edit, according to People, and she's opening up about why she can't wait to turn the big 4-0. Also, she's probably never looked better. Queen Kate slays again.

Turning 40 might be scary for some people, but Kate Winslet met that life milestone on October 5 (Happy Birthday, Kate!), and according to her recent interview in Net-a-Porter.com's The Edit, she couldn't be more excited. Instead of dreading the big 4-0, the Oscar-winning actress spent the last two years pushing herself, working extremely hard (the proof is in the three films she has debuting in the next six months), and having as much fun as humanely possible — which sounds like an all-around, great and positive approach to something that probably causes a lot of trepidation and anxiety. "I don’t feel old. I feel excited about being 40," Winslet said. And she certainly doesn't look it, either.

The editorial features black-and-white images of the Titanic star in raw, sensual, and powerful poses, and she looks absolutely stunning. But she might just have her age to thank for that. “Confidence comes with age, and looking beautiful comes from the confidence someone has in themselves,” Winslet said.

Obviously, 40 looks pretty darn good on her. In celebration of her birthday, here are seven of Winslet's most body-positive quotes.

1. On Inspiring Her Daughter

"I stand in front of the mirror and say to [my daughter] Mia, 'We are so lucky we have a shape. We're so lucky we're curvy. We're so lucky that we've got good bums.' And she'll say, 'Mummy, I know, thank God.' It's paying off," Winslet said on Running Wild with Bear Grylls.

2. On Juicing

"I'm no stranger to the occasional dodgy juice, but it doesn't taste very nice and it is bloody boring. It's not a way to live," Winslet told Marie Claire.

3. On Losing Her Baby Weight

"I don't know how much I can be bothered to have to lose the weight. It's such a pain in the ass. I'm not one of those people for whom it magically drops off," Winslet told USA Today.

4. On Empowering Women

"I look like people that walk down the street. I don't have perfect boobs, I don't have zero cellulite — of course I don't — and I'm curvy. If that is something that makes women feel empowered in any way, that's great," Winslet told The Sun.

5. On Perfection

"I don't look in the mirror and go, 'Oh, I look fantastic!' Of course I don't. Nobody is perfect. I just don't believe in perfection. But I do believe in saying, 'This is who I am and look at me not being perfect!' I'm proud of that," Winslet told the Daily Mail.

6. On Her Childhood

"When I grew up, I never heard positive reinforcement about body image from any female in my life. I only heard negatives. That's very damaging because then you're programmed as a young woman to immediately scrutinise yourself and how you look. I was chubby, always had big feet the wrong shoes, bad hair," Winslet said on Running Wild with Bear Grylls.

7. On Accepting Herself

"I accept my body. I accept how I am and make the best of what I am given," Winslet told Brigitte.
