15 Black & Orange Cocktails For Halloween

by Meghan Bassett

All right fellow ghouls and goblins, our favorite holiday is right around the corner. Halloween is coming up quick, and I bet I already know the burning question lingering in the back of your mind — “What am I going to drink this Halloween?” The answer is orange and black drink recipes you can drum up yourself, obviously!

I am one of those people who loves to celebrate any holiday to its fullest. For Halloween, I go all out with my costume, decorations, candy for the kids, and throwing an insane costume party. It’s all about the little details, right down to the Halloween-themed cupcakes and black and orange cocktails. The truth is I’ll take any excuse to celebrate, no matter what it is, even if it ends in me getting sick off of black and orange jello shots (oh, it’s happened).

It doesn’t matter if you are planning to host a party, or go out on the town all night — you need at least one black or orange cocktail to start the evening off as you’re pulling your costume on at home. I’ve rounded up my favorite Halloween libations for you to choose from this year. It’s time to raise our black and orange-filled glasses to another spooky year!

1. Jack-O-Lantern

The name says it all, doesn’t it? A perfectly pumpkin-packed cocktail from The Kitchn is exactly how the Halloween festivities should start off!

2. Spiced Apple Cider

If Halloween tends to be chilly in your part of the world, you need to whip up a batch of these boozy warm cocktails from Jelly Toast ASAP. You can even pretend that floating cloud of whipped cream is a ghost in an orange sea!

3. Pumpkin Pineapple Cocktail

You might be questioning the pumpkin and pineapple combination from Cookie + Kate, but you have to trust me, it’s the best combination of fall and tropical out there. I dare you to make them for your friends, and see if they can guess what’s in them!

4. Black Magic Cocktails

Black magic cocktails look like something out of Love Potion No. 9, don’t they? Adventures in Cooking totally got in the spirit with this black cherry magic potion, and my mouth is already watering for a sip.

5. Burnt Honey Bourbon Sour

This cocktail from A Spicy Perspective reminds me of trick-or-treating. You get the sweet for the “treat” with the burnt honey, and the “trick” in the hint of sour. Tip: if you’re looking to impress, you’ll look like a total rock star for whipping up such a fancy drink.

6. Spiced Apple Margaritas

You have to get a little spicy on Halloween, don’t you? With all those crazy costumes and parties, this spiced-up orange libation from Cookie + Kate will warm you up from the inside out before you run out the door.

7. I Yam What I Yam

For those of you looking for something out of left field, look no further than this fancy schmancy cocktail from Endless Simmer. If you can’t have sweet potato in your drink on Halloween, when can you?

8. Chocolate-Ginger Martini with Cayenne-Spiked Rim

Now this is my new dark cocktail star hitter on Halloween. The Food and Style cocktail is packed with candy and spice, making me feel like I’m drinking a Halloween goody bag with every sip. You’ll probably try to be late for your party just to drink another one of these bad boys.

9. The Black Almond

Just looking at this drink makes me want to turn on the smoke machine, turn down the lights and get the haunted house going. Pass the Sushi nails the spooky, dark cocktail to get caught with while running from Dracula down a dark alley.

10. Orange Old-Fashioned

This twist on a classic drink from The Kitchn is a must for anyone who’s digging those Mad Men era cocktails right now. It’s simple, straightforward, and won’t make you feel like you’re drinking a candy bar like so many other themed cocktails do.

11. The Satan’s Whiskers Cocktail

Well if the name doesn’t draw you in enough to take a sip, you need to step up your Halloween game. The Kitchn makes the most devilish drink I’ve ever seen with this recipe, and it will have you howling at the moon for more.

12. Mini Guinness Chocolate Floats

I can barely find the words to describe how much I am dying to try these rich mini floats from Jelly Toast. Guinness? Check. Chocolate? Check. Ice Cream? Check. I think I just fainted… Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. Any upstanding Irish woman or man will have these by the gallon on All Hallow’s Eve.

13. Spiked Pumpkin Pie Milkshake

What’s a holiday without a spiked milkshake? Uneventful, to say the least, right? It’s time to get your boozy dessert fix on with this pumpkin shake from the The Kitchn. If you’re intent on stuffing your face this Halloween (and who isn’t?), this is the way to do it and sneak your booze in at the same time.

14. Apple Cider Hot Toddy

A hot toddy happens to be my favorite holiday drink, so finding an excuse to drink it around Halloween as well makes my heart explode. This apple cider version from The Little Epicurean is what every parent should be hiding in their thermoses while the kiddos trick-or-treat (don’t pretend like you wouldn’t…).

15. Vanilla-Infused Pear Dark n’ Stormy

This dark n’ stormy cocktail from My Baking Addiction is my new stormy Halloween go-to. It has that burnt orange hue I love, and a ginger bite that feels downright evil to indulge in.
