Deacon & Scarlett May Never Heal On 'Nashville'

Deacon and Scarlett are going through some trouble, y’all. Following the passing of Beverly, Deacon and Scarlett are constantly fighting on Nashville, and right now, there's no end to their feud in sight. It all started when Scarlett had to decide to pull the plug on her mother following complications from Deacon’s liver surgery — Deacon thought that Scarlett should have waited to see if a miracle would happen, and Scarlett believed that her mother would actually never wake up. Since Beverly actually died, they have been at each other's throats.

Things only got worse when Scarlett went back to their hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, to clean out Beverly’s house. She assumed she’d be going through all of her mother’s stuff alone, and then Deacon showed up, I guess to get some sort of closure or something? Rayna encouraged him for that reason, but is closure really going to happen here? Anyway, they were steely and cold to each other until Scarlett burst out, condemning Deacon as a “selfish, selfish” person for not being there for her when she had to take her mother off of life support and for judging her during the hardest decision of her life. You can’t really argue with that, and Deacon knows it.

Deacon and Scarlett were once very, very close, and it’s sad and sort of shocking that these two have fallen so far, so fast. Honestly, Deacon’s whole “I-always-have-to-be-a-martyr” complex is totally what’s to blame. What Scarlett needed when she was making an extremely difficult decision was support from her family, and Deacon just ran off. At the end of the episode, Deacon apologized and told Scarlett that he was sorry he wasn’t strong enough to make the decision with her, but will it be enough? The rest of Nashville Season 4 will tell, but I hope that Deacon and Scarlett fully make up, because they’re all each other has.
