Rooney Mara Keeps It Minimal For 'Interview' Cover

There's minimalist and then there is seriously minimalist. Actress Rooney Mara covers Interview , rocking minimal makeup for the mag's November 2015 issue and the presentation was as minimalist as it gets. At least when it comes to the makeup. The black and white image actually made it appear as though Mara's cheekbones were contoured. But other than that, she was fierce in the shot.

Then again, Mara, who scratched and clawed her way into our hearts in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, often shows severe, high fashion, and contrasted looks as she promotes her films. She went with minimalist goth at the Pan premiere last month and often opts for a slicked back bun, and deep lip colors with pretty dresses.

Her Interview cover feels like it was snapped without too much preparation or posing, as if the photographer just captured her on the go. I have to admit that I am loving that apron-like, chain strap top she is wearing.

There's a serious depth in her expressive eyes. Her cheeks do appear contoured and I cannot tell if it's makeup, the lighting, or the magic of the photographer or photo editor. Whatever. It doesn't matter since it's so striking.

Doesn't this shot look like a vintage photo you stumbled upon in a box in your grandmother's closet? Yeah it does.

Mara noted in the feature that she can often absorb the energy of others and pick up their moods, even at the grocery story. This image makes me totally believe that statement.

Again, Mara is always up for a strong look when it comes to fashion. Let's relive some of her fashion wins this year.

This pale column dress was soft and gloriously ruffled. But Mara toughened it up with her vampy lips.

See how intricate and detailed the back was? I'm talking about both the dress and her 'do.

Mara pretty much favors a tightly slicked back 'do, which provided a sharp contrast to her ruffly white dress.

She doesn't fear unusual shapes, such as this double-tiered frock. That's some LBD right there. Even with a Christmas tree-ish shape, it was phenomenal.

She actually wore her hair down for once! However, she stuck with her berry-stained lip signature. The black in the bottom of her dress made it appear as though she tied a sweater around her waist. Quirky but... it worked.

Ah, her monochromatic goth look! Minimal but memorable.

Once again, Mara balanced the softness of her delicate, cream-colored gown with deep, Bordeaux lips and her preferred slick back hair.

Even an LWD is unique when Rooney Mara wears it. The cuffs, the shape, and pretty much all of the details of this bone-hued mini were totally unexpected.

Clearly, Rooney Mara has her signatures and they are fashion-forward, severe, slicked back, dark-lipped, and include a preference for unusual shapes. All those things commingle to make her a style star who never bores and who is always one to watch.
