5 Perfect Party Looks For The Holidays

by Gina Jones 2

The holiday season is my favorite time of year for shopping, because everything becomes either embellished, glittery, or just ready to party. Shopping for plus-size party wear is sometimes a disaster, but when it comes to the holiday party season, everything just suddenly suits my tastes so much. Gone are the laid-back, nautical themes of summer and I welcome sequins, fringe, and rhinestones with open arms.

What I'm trying to say is, regardless of whether your calendar is overflowing with parties or you're planning a more chill holiday season with loved ones, there's no excuse not to take advantage of the wonderful party wear coming your way this winter. As a chronic over-dresser, I personally love nothing more than spending my Christmas Eve dressed like an Oscar nominee, just to drink mulled wine and eat cookies with my family. A good outfit will make you feel brilliant regardless of the situation and is totally worth the investment.

To help give you some potential party looks, we've teamed up with Nordstrom to bring you some strong sequined inspiration for this holiday season. It's the most wonderful time of the year, so don't you want to look the most wonderful out of everyone in the room? These varied styles will give you plenty of options on the vibe you want to send this year.

1. The Holiday Party Dress

Eliza J Embellished Mock Neck Dress With Chiffon Overlay, $178 at Nordstrom

This dress is deceptively simple at first glance, but it's the little details that make it so gorgeous. From the gemstone neckline to the cuffed sleeves, it makes a statement without screaming it from the rooftops. Just picture all that lovely chiffon swaying with your body as you stride across the party — showing everyone exactly how it's done.

2. The Embellished Neckline

The shimmery nature of this floral dress, with its combination of deep and light purple shades, is the perfect way to be sparkly as an adult. Not only that, but when you've let your hair down, being spun around a dance floor is always made better by a beautiful, full skirt. My favorite part of this dress is the beautiful beading around the neckline. It removes the need for a necklace and adds another layer of glamour to your look.

3. The Work Party Dress

The thing about the work party is that you want to look like you haven't tried at all, but still be the most flawless queen in the room. This isn't a look that you can choose easily. You have to make a statement and make sure that nobody's wearing something similar so that you can strut your stuff. This '60s-inspired scarf dress takes paisley well into the present. Plus, by representing this extremely current trend, you show just how fashionable you are outside of the workplace (as I'm sure you're the best dressed during work hours already).

4. The Sassy Night Out

A good pair of jeans will change your life and that isn't an exaggeration — it's a universal truth. A good pair of jeans will also take you from a cute, casual look straight into a night out. Hugging your curves, this skintight gray denim shows off your body without having to bare your skin to the winter cold. And with the addition of this amazing sequined blazer, your look goes from quiet drinks with the girls to sparkly, holiday-ready babe.

5. The Sassy Night Out: Part 2

City Chic Disco Fringe Vest, $59; City Chic 'Silver' Stretch Skinny Jeans, $89; City Chic Wrap Front Top, $69 at Nordstrom

It's the holidays. So face it — you're going to have more than one night out, and you're definitely going to be sassy more than once! The layered fringe of this vest will keep you warm and chic this winter. It's also versatile enough to be used on a whole host of holiday looks, not just one night out. And speaking of versatile, those perfect jeans pop up again for another night of partying and making you look great.
