Do This For Your Hair Every Day

by Sienna Fantozzi

Hair care can be overwhelming. There are so many things to think about, and the list of "must-do's" and "never-do's" is seemingly endless, but it doesn't have to be that complicated. While there are definitely several things you could do to improve the health of your hair, an in-depth beauty routine isn't always practical or necessary, so if you're only going to do one thing for your hair every day, it absolutely should be using a heat protectant.

You hear it all the time — lay off the heating appliances, don't style your hair everyday, etc., but let's be real, you might want (or maybe even need) to style your hair every day, so you have to be extra careful with it. Just like you shouldn't lay out in the sun without sunscreen, you shouldn't use a curling/flat iron/blow dryer without a heat protectant.

Heat causes dryness and damage, so using a heat protectant creates a barrier to help shield and protect the hair. Granted, this doesn't give you the freedom to use the highest heat setting or turn on the appliances any more than needed, heat is still damaging, protectant or not, but applying a serum or spray first will definitely mitigate the damage.

Here are five heat protectants to use on a daily basis.

1. Spray

TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray, $5, Jet

If you don't like a lot of product in your hair, try a spray.

2. Repairing

Phytokeratine Repairing Thermal Protectant Spray, $32, Amazon

If your hair is already dry, use a heat protectant that will repair damage already done.

3. Color Protection

CHI Total Project Defense, $11, Amazon

If you color your hair, try a heat protectant that also protects against color fading.

4. Gloss

Moroccanoil Heat Protection, $28, Moroccanoil

This heat protectant leaves your hair with a glossy-like finish.

5. UV Protection

Protection from the sun is important, too.
