The slew of holiday parties about to start happening is the perfect excuse to splurge on a beautiful new winter coat you'll love forever. To celebrate the season, I've scouted seven formal coats for winter that will keep you super warm while looking extra elegant. Who says clothing can't be both fashionable and functional?
While formal winter coats obviously make sense to wear to holiday parties and beautiful winter weddings, don't just lock up your new coat for "special" occasions. Pairing a formal jacket or coat with more casual pieces like cute oversized sweaters, a warm pair of flannel jeans, and even with a summer dress will brighten up your style and make bracing the cold each day just a little more enjoyable. In fact, my standard outfit for winter tends to be a thin flannel shirt, a warm but not bulky sweatshirt (my current obsession is this 'sulk' sweatshirt from Stay Home Club!), black skinny jeans, beat up old Timberlands, and a dramatic slate gray trench coat I got last year from J. Crew.
Whether you're into trench coats like me, pea coats, or something else altogether, the formal coat looks below are bound to inspire you!
