Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello Duet "I Know What You Did Last Summer" Might Be Coming Soon & Here's A Preview — LISTEN
Harmonizers are dying to know: Are Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello releasing a duet? We're still waiting for official confirmation, but so far, all signs point to yes. Over the weekend, a preview of a rumored Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello song called "I Know What You Did Last Summer" mysteriously appeared online. In the 15-second video, two voices sing over an acoustic guitar while two shadowy figures (who look suspiciously like Mendes and Cabello) pose against a smoky blue backdrop. At the end of the clip, "IKWYDLS.COM" appears on screen. (Currently, the website just says "#IKWYDLS" and "COMING SOON.") Hmm. What's going on here?
Billboard reported at the end of September that Mendes and Cabello were planning to record a duet. The pair have been rumored to be dating for a while now, so it doesn't seem unreasonable to think that they may have hit the studio together. Mendes is re-releasing his debut album, Handwritten, as Handwritten Revisited on Nov. 20 with four new songs added to the track list. Could "I Know What You Did Last Summer" be one of them? It's definitely possible.
Fifth Harmony are hard at work on their sophomore LP at the moment, but Cabello said during a recent interview with Latina magazine that each member is free "to do" her "own thing." Was she hinting at a forthcoming tune with Mendes? I wonder. Check out the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" preview below.
Mendes just recently scored his first top 5 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with "Stitches," and Cabello is arguably the most well-known member of 5H. In other words, they would make quite a powerful musical team! But what's the deal with the title of their rumored collaboration? Is "I Know What You Did Last Summer" a reference to the famous 1997 teen slasher flick of the same name? Honestly, I'm not sure.
The movie premiered before either singer was born, so it would be an odd reference to make. (Also, Halloween is over — hello!) However, the tune's preview video is kind of spooky...
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens! Hopefully, Mendes and Cabello will give us some "I Know What You Did Last Summer" details very soon.
