Menswear is often a tricky trend to pull off for a variety of reasons. The look almost always needs a feminine element, like jewelry or makeup, to add some softness. But Julia Roberts slayed menswear —again!— at the L.A. premiere of Secrets in Their Eyes, which finds the actress playing a decidedly unglamorous character driven to avenge the death of her daughter. The actress wore an oversized, black Givenchy blazer with a lacy, white mini dress.
The pairing called attention to her legs and was ripe for the cooler fall temps. Roberts pretty much killed it with this sexy and unexpected ensemble, which she finished with strappy heels.
Roberts does not fear pantsuits or masculine cuts. Black blazers are also her signature.
She is naturally beautiful, thanks to that maaaj, infamous grin, so she can pretty much get away with anything when it comes to fashion. But she dares to do menswear and she does it often.
Remember those fierce Givenchy ads, which landed last year and found her stuffing her hands into the pockets of a baggy suit?
So, yeah, this is just another time that Roberts made a masculine blazer feel feminine. That's kind of her thing.
Let's have a look at her outfit, which, despite the black and white palette, was anything but basic or snooze inducing.
The tailored jacket was clean, while the dress had a whimsical and flirtatious vibe. Check out all of the detailing at the hem.
The skinny straps of her heels also drew the eye to her legs.
What a polished and professional look.
Roberts showed just a hint of skin. She was mostly covered up, but the skin that she did show was appropriate.
Still a Pretty Woman after all these years.
The mother of three opted for a messy bun, which was also a sexy contrast to the structured cut of her blazer.
Roberts rocked a clean cut blazer with a pair of black specs. It was another professional look for her.
She loves her a good pantsuit. This one slayed because of the royal purple hue.
She "blazers" trails, doesn't she?
Roberts really is fashion's patron saint of menswear.
Doesn't this make you want to do a pantsuit at your next dressy event?! This was also Givenchy, her go-to designer.
OK, so this isn't menswear but I love it and had to remind you of the time Roberts wore this dusty blue, beaded frock.
She also rocked a hot pink Valentino jumpsuit in 2014. The wide legs added that feminine touch I mentioned earlier.
Seriously, though. Does anyone kill it better than Roberts when it comes to tailored menswear? I think not.
