Rewatching 'HP And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1'

Five years ago audiences saw the entire wizarding world go through some major changes as we watched the beginning of the end of Harry Potter. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 was released in 2010 and today we are celebrating the five year anniversary of the film. Last week I rewatched the fourth Potter film for its 10th anniversary and now I’m jumping ahead a few movies to the seventh. I poured my wine and made popcorn and watched Harry, Ron, and Hermione take on the hunt for Horocruxes.

While I am a big fan of all the Harry Potter movies, I have to admit that when I watched them for the first time this one and the sixth one were my least favorites. After watching it again, I stand by that statement. They could have added another Horocrux find to make it more interesting. The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 begins with an attempt to move Harry to the Weasley’s where Fleur and Bill’s wedding took place. After an attack at the wedding Harry, Ron and Hermione disappear and hunt for Horocruxes. They finally find the locket, destroy it and almost get killed, but are saved at the last minute. There, a two and a half hour movie condensed into three sentences.

Here are 14 things I noticed when I went back and watched Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

1. Catelyn Stark Is Hermione’s Mom

Yes, there were many articles that pointed out that Hermione’s mom is in fact the famous Game of Thrones character Catelyn Stark, but I couldn’t write this article without point it out again. Her name in real life is Michelle Fairley.

2. Bill Nighy As The New Minister

Bill Nighy takes on the role as Rufus Scrimgeour in Deathly Hallows Part 1. I have to admit that anytime I see Bill Nighy, I can only imagine him as Billy Mack from Love Actually.

3. Hedwig’s Death

Seriously though? There was no reason poor Hedwig had to die. Of all the characters that died in this series, this was rough. RIP Hedwig.

4. Hagrid And Madame Maxime

We haven’t seen Madame Maxime since she departed the Triwizard Tournament, but she’s at Fleur and Bill’s wedding in this movie. Are her and Hagrid still hooking up? Were they actually ever hooking up? I just want to know if there was some post-wedding, post-Death Eater hookup!

5. Polyjuice Potion

Remember in The Chamber of Secrets when it took months to brew polyjuice potion? It literally seems like the easiest thing to get ahold of since the fourth movie. It’s everywhere and everyone just happens to have it.

6. This Propaganda

“Mudbloods and the dangers they pose to a perfect pure blood society” is the title of this pamphlet from the Ministry of Magic. I never noticed this before, but it’s a bit Nazi-like no? I assume that’s what they were going for?

7. Everyone Would Be Dead Without Hermione

For real though. Harry and Ron would have never been able to accomplish anything without her.

8. The Horocrux Necklace

When you wear it for too long the power of the necklace starts to take over the person wearing it. Hmm, where else does a piece of jewelry possess that much power? Oh yeah, Lord of The Rings.

9. Ron Is A Debbie Downer

Yet again, Ron is always shitting on everything. I mean, yes, he was wearing the necklace and it was making him a jerk, but as I said in the Goblet of Fire rewatch, he is literally always a wet blanket. Why am I just now noticing it? Can he just go with the flow and be positive for one minute?

10. That Weird Naked Harry And Hermione Moment

Why are they naked right here? More importantly, how did I not notice this the first time I saw it.

11. This Very True Statement

You know how you can tell Ron and Hermione are dating? When Harry asks her: “Are you still mad at him” and her response is: “I’m always mad at him.”

12. The Saddest Death Ever (Besides Sirius And Dumbledore)

Dobby, no! He was just trying to save Harry Potter and his friends. This was a devastating moment at the end of the movie. He was loyal to the very end and they would have been dead without him.

13. They Only Found One Horocrux

That movie is two and a half hours and literally they found and destroyed one Horocrux. Yeah, there’s a wedding and the Elder Wand information, but when you really think about it, they were pretty much just hanging out in a tent the entire movie.

14. What Does That Mean For Umbridge?

Okay, so this necklace had evil powers and if Dolores Umbridge was wearing it every single day, doesn't that mean that she may not be a monster? What if Umbridge was just under the necklace’s spell? Think about it.
