You Have To See Adam Levine's Latest Tattoo
After weeks of secrecy, Adam Levine just revealed his latest tattoo via Instagram. He's slowly been giving us sneak peeks of his new ink over the past several weeks, but he finally unveiled the whole tattoo — and this particular work of art was definitely worth the wait. It features a gorgeously-rendered mermaid holding a skull, and it covers almost the entirety of his back, and it's nothing short of beautiful.
The dramatic unveiling was captioned with a shout-out to his favorite tattoo artist — Levine joked, "If you ever want a tattoo and you don't get it from @bryanrandolph ...you're nuts. He's the DUDE." Levine's wife, Behati Prinsloo (a Victoria's Secret Angel, who happened to wear one of the most awesomely crazy looks at the recent VS Fashion Show) also posted about the new tattoo, and by her admission it was created via "house call."
Now, the Maroon 5 frontman is no stranger to ink — he's got a myriad (or menagerie, rather) of different tattoos, pretty much everywhere, and the skull-clutching mermaid is just the latest addition to his ongoing body mural. Let's take a look at his latest, as well as some of his other most prominent inks.
The Mermaid
Pretty spectacular, no?
The Shark
Levine's badass shark tattoo was actually devised as a means of facing his fears — he told NUVO Magazine, "I thought the best way to get in touch with the fear was to tattoo it on my body, in a weird way, because I can’t escape it."
The X
According to Boomsbeat, the X on his inner bicep is actually a Roman numeral celebrating Maroon 5's 10th anniversary.
The Tiger
According to his Sexiest Man Alive interview with People, the tiger was inspired by his "love of this amazing book of Tibetan drawings."
The Eagle
He also told People that his eagle was part of a "strange road map or narrative over the years."
The Los Angeles
Oh, and the words "Los Angeles" on his shoulder? A "simple case of hometown love," according to the same interview.
The Sanskrit
Apparently, the sanskrit on his chest reads "tapas," of which he explained to Popcrush, "The meaning is a little bit loose and can get misinterpreted, but when applied to talking about yoga, it has to do with my fire or determination for the practice."
The 222
Located on his inner forearm, his 222 tattoo is a reference to the address of the first studio Maroon 5 ever recorded at.
The "Frankie Girl"
Levine has a paw print and the words "Frankie Girl" tattooed on his back (alongside his new mermaid) — and he got the ink to memorialize his golden retriever.
The Rose
Inspired by a more traditional Russian tattoo, the rose on Levine's shoulder is one of his few regrets — he told Anderson Cooper it looked like "a cauliflower with a sun in the middle of it."
All things considered, Levine's latest tattoo may just also be his best, in my opinion.
