We're Going Back To Maveth On 'S.H.I.E.L.D.'

The Maveth tourism industry sure is booming lately. Ever since Simmons returned from the sunless alien planet, she has been working to return and rescue Will the Astronaut. However, Coulson, Ward, and Fitz went through the portal on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. at the end of Tuesday's episode, taking all of their various conflicts with them.

Here's how it all went down. After revealing that the planet Maveth housed the God of Hydra or whatever, Gideon Malick kidnapped FitzSimmons. He and Ward separated the two agents and demanded to know how Simmons was able to escape from Maveth. Fitz gave in to the torture and volunteered to give up the information and go to the planet himself, while promising Jemma that he would bring Will back to her. Leo's sad devotion to doing what's right still hurts. Ward was sent by Malick — who is probably just trying to get rid of the wild card — to lead the mission and reaffirm his faith in Hydra with a face to face meeting. Ward was reluctant, but suited up in military fatigues (why one would wear Earth camouflage to another planet is beyond me, but there you have it) and jumped dutifully into the portal.

Coulson, on the other hand, arrived on Maveth somewhat by accident. His rogue band of agents had narrowed in on the Hydra operation but were out of time. Phil made the rash decision to jump directly into their midst, and ended up falling through the portal just before it closed. Umm, oops? He hit his head upon entry and doesn't seem to be nearby Fitz and the others. So that's three main characters on this planet now, all with different agendas. Oh boy.

When the show returns Tuesday for the mid-season finale, our team of heroes and villains have 12 hours until the portal opens back up again — how much drama do you think Coulson and Ward (not to mention Fitz and Will) can drum up in that time lock? I'm guessing a bunch. Coulson is Maveth-bent on killing Ward. Hydra wants to bring the mysterious creature who lives on the planet and drives human beings insane back to Earth, lovely. Fitz just wants to save an innocent astronaut named Will. There's absolutely no way that this is going to end smoothly, which should make for a thrilling Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. midseason finale.
