Beth Ditto, Jean Paul Gaultier T-Shirt Collabo Is Epic & Her Plus Size Line Will Be, Too — PHOTO
Epic. That's pretty much the only way I can describe the Beth Ditto x Jean Paul Gaultier t-shirt collaboration! The shirt, which comes ahead of Ditto's self-titled, plus size clothing line, boasts a front and back print of Gaultier's infamous and iconic bullet bra corset as popularized by Madonna. But it's not just a regular old tee that you can slice and dice to customize. It's a dress-length, oversize tee and it has three dimensional, adjustable corset laces on the back. It can be styled in multiple ways.
So, yeah, the Beth Ditto ♥ John Paul Gaultier tee is about as high fashion a t-shirt as you can get. Also, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Girls Rock Camp Foundation. Therefore, it's stylish and offers a passive way to do good.
Ditto, who is the frontwoman for The Gossip, has been tight with JPG forevs. She has walked the runway for the brand and wore a custom Gaultier gown for her wedding. It made sense for this terrific twosome to deepen their fashion connection with this shirt.
But even more importantly, the shirt marks the first time Gaultier is offering an item up to size US 30. "Big girls are beautiful and Beth is super beautiful," the designer declared in a release. "Long live the beauty with shapes, boobs, and bottoms. This is a new concept, a loose fit corset. And Beth fits it perfectly."
I love when fashion reinvents itself to cater to women of varying shapes and sizes, and when fashion actually has a sense of humor.
Ditto equals Gaultier's enthusiasm and passion for their collabo. "Jean Paul is the most generous, positive person, he truly loves women of all sizes and ages and knows how to make everyone feel gorgeous," Ditto said in the press release calling out a critical point. "I love that this shirt is funny and chic at the same time, like all the best people!"
That's the scoop on the shirt. But what do we know about Ditto's forthcoming fashion line? Here are three key deets.
1. It's Out In February
Ditto's eponymous range will land in February, so it's just two short months away.
2. Vintage, Baby!
The collection's aesthetic will mix current looks with a vintage flair. That's pretty much an accurate description of Ditto's personal style. Expect vibrant prints and well-tailored offerings made of silks, rayons, and embroidery, which are elements that are often MIA in plus size lines.
3. Fashion That Fits
Ditto is a natural beauty, as evidenced by her makeup-free selfie, which spotlights those amazing lashes! Her goal was to create a fashionable line that fits, based on her first-hand understanding of that concept. She said, "This line is by us, for us, period. It's my lifelong dream to get to design real clothes for big people, clothes that are comfortable and cool!"
Well, with one look at the Ditto x JPG corset tee, mission accomplished! I can't wait to see more and which direction she goes in.
