Khloe Kardashian's New Show Is... Interesting

by Caitlyn Callegari

A Keeping Up With The Kardashians spinoff is not something especially wild or new. But, Khloé Kardashian is getting a new show called Revenge Body with Khlo é Kardashian , and it is unlike anything the Kardashians have done before. Or even the Jenners for that matter. While I Am Cait has a familiar flow and follows a similar format to KUWTK, Khloé's venture will feel much different. In fact, per the description, it might not feel like a Kardashian or Jenner show at all. You know, despite having Ryan Seacrest's name attached to it.

According to the press release from E!,

Revenge Body with Khloé Kardashian is a show that will transform lives with the support of 'Strong Looks Better Naked' author, Khloé Kardashian. Whether they’ve been dumped, lost their job, or are facing some of life’s toughest challenges, Khloé will help motivate them to seek the ultimate revenge by receiving a true and total makeover. Because, as Khloé can attest, the best revenge is looking and feeling your best! This original unscripted series is produced by Rogue Atlas Productions in association with Lionsgate Television, KhloMoney Productions, Inc., and Ryan Seacrest Productions.

So, yeah. A Kourtney and Kim Take Miami this is not. Not even close, actually. While I'm sure we'll get to witness the third eldest Kardashian's winning humor, I think that's where the similarities between her previous reality shows and this one begin and end. Also, there's the whole premise we have to get into. But, first, here's how the press release breaks down the format of the episodes,

In each of the six one-hour episodes, two heartbroken individuals will get the opportunity to recreate themselves with the help of a team of Hollywood’s most elite trainers, stylists and glam squads assembled by Khloé Kardashian. The results are going to be a major transformation inside and out, leading to a final reveal to the world and the chance to defy those who doubted them. It’s all about empowering those who are down on themselves after being rejected and building them up from the inside out. It's all about the 'Revenge Body.'

Listen, I am all for Kardashian working out for the body she wants, and even penning a book to help others do the same if they so please. But this doesn't seem to be about the body you, the viewer, wants. It's about getting a body and a look that's going to make someone else envious. There's a slew of problems with this, but, first and foremost, I think we've established that revenge in any form is just never the way to go. Revenge doesn't come from a place of peace; it comes from a place of anger. That is not healthy. Secondly, the only person any of us have to prove anything to is ourselves. Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, this is a considerably skewed message on body image. You shouldn't have to feel obligated to change how look you for anyone. Even more so when it's done out of spite.

I hope that the show is more than what it seems. Watching Kardashian, and getting to know her on-screen for the better part of a decade, I don't think she intended it for it to be a detrimental outlook on body image and self image, even inadvertantly. I guess we'll just have to wait until the episodes air to see, because, as of now, I don't really know what to think of it.
