Shay Mitchell Dresses For A West Coast Winter Like A Pro — PHOTO

On Wednesday, Shay Mitchell posted an Instagram of her biking by the beach, palm trees and all. Judging by the likes — over 200k and counting — Mitchell's devotees seem to dig the pro-Cali vibes. "Cool weather in Cali has me longing for warm temps and beach cruisers... and by cool I mean, I need to wear long sleeves," she captioned the photo.

For eighteen years of my life, winter meant sixty degrees and surf, sand, and sun over snow. Rain boots, parkas, ear muffs — the typical ingredients of an East Coast winter — were completely foreign territory to me. Until I made the transition to NYC, December afternoons still consisted of smoothies by the Pacific and beachy cardigans (in polar vortex conditions, this would prove infeasible). Leave it to this Pretty Little Liars starlet to once again make my heart ache for home.

Mitchell isn't just an on-camera goddess, but purveyor of swoon-worthy outfits. From flirty floral dresses to insane sneaker game, the actress/model/blogger certainly deserves the title of style icon — of California cool fashion that is. Her wardrobe is the epitome of LA casual: think bold patterns, flowy silhouettes, and bohemian essence for days. In her latest Instagram shot, Mitchell sports the classic beach uniform — a look that unfortunately can only be pulled off when Mother Nature blesses your city with year-round sunshine.

Stuck with the holiday chills? Have no fear: channeling Mitchell's laid back style is simple, even for the winter season. So, take an oath and replace those bulky ski jackets and frumpy knits with a dose of the West Coast.

1. White Blouse

Free People Crochet Blouse, $140,

Take a tip from Mitchell and invest in a quality white blouse. And the more boho, the better — I'm all about the crochet, lace, and bell sleeves assortment. Versatility is key here: strike it solo for sunny weekends, then layer a shearling jacket or fur vest on top when the degrees start dropping.

2. Light Wash Denim

ASOS Brady Boyfriend Jeans, $63,

Though Mitchell is rocking high-waisted denim shorts, tailor your outfit for the cold weather with relaxed jeans. This is where boyfriends come in handy — and I'm talking the denim variety. You'll want jeans that are blissfully comfortable but fit like a dream.

3. Cross Body Bag

Monki Fringe Cross Body Bag, $33,

Never underestimate the practicality of a cross body bag. This black fringe option from Monki is all kinds groovy and handy for storing belongings.

4. Cat Eye Sunglasses

ASOS Metal Cat Eye Sunglasses, $27,

Add a retro flair to your outfit with cat-eye sunnies. And while you're at it, why not perfect your cat-eye liner too? Kill two birds with one stone.

5. Espadrilles

ASOS JESSICA Espadrilles, $33,

Time to say goodbye to clunky winter boots. For California-appropiate footwear, stick to lightweight options: ankle boots, street sneakers, and of course, the ever-so dainty espadrille. These pastel espadrilles from ASOS will accompany you on your adventures, whether that be by land or sea.
