Chelsea Clinton Is Pregnant With Her Second Child & Her Announcement Is Adorable
On Monday, in an adorable Tweet featuring daughter Charlotte, Chelsea Clinton announced she's pregnant with her second child with husband Marc Mezvinsky. "Next summer, Charlotte is going to be a big sister! Feeling very blessed & grateful this holiday season," the 35-year-old Clinton tweeted, attaching a black-and-white photo of Charlotte opening a book entitled Big Sisters Are The Best. Charlotte turned one in September.
The baby will be the second grandchild for Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, who has been open about how the experience of being a grandmother has affected her. In her autobiography Hard Choices, she wrote:
Becoming a grandmother has made me think deeply about the responsibility we all share as stewards of the world we inherit and will one day pass on. Rather than make me want to slow down, it has spurred me to speed up. As Margaret Mead said, children keep our imaginations fresh and our hearts young, and they drive us to work for a better future. ...
... The United States and the other great democracies have to redouble our efforts to empower moderates and marginalize extremists everywhere, and to stand firmly and united in pursuit of a more just, free, and peaceful world. That's the world I want for Charlotte and for all our kids.
Hillary has frequently invoked being a mother and grandmother on the campaign trail this time round, and as such is likely to openly discuss Chelsea's pregnancy on the campaign trail — a stark distinction from her 2008 campaign.
Since Clinton's second child is due in the summer, that would put her at about three months' pregnant as of December.
Chelsea has been revving up to play what's reported to be a bigger part in her mother's campaign in the New Year, headlining events to raise money and support for the 2016 campaign. Thus far, she and her father Bill have largely left the campaigning up to Hillary, but that's likely to change as election year approaches.
Chelsea's parents shared in her joy via Twitter in the minutes after her announcement.
