It’s time to start thanking your Taylor-Swift-loving lucky stars, because the Squad Leader just gave us all the perfect excuse to kick off our shoes, get cozy on the couch, and not go out for New Year’s Eve. As announced on Tuesday, Taylor Swift will be releasing her “Out of the Woods” video during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, giving every Swiftie the perfect excuse to throw in the towel, save a ton of money, and throw an at-home theme party instead of facing the insufferable crowds outside on the big night
Do I sound like a total curmudgeon? It’s probably because I am. And as much as I may want to pretend that I want to go out on New Year’s Eve, I am thankful to Swift for giving me the perfect excuse to stay in and throw a Swift-theme party with confidence.
So, here’s what I’m thinking. Instead of going out and spending a fortune on cover charges and drinks, I’m going to take the opportunity to throw a theme party in Taylor’s honor. If you’re interested in doing the same, here are all the things you’ll need to do it up big time, Taylor Swift style.
Red Lipstick Is A Must
As with any Taylor Swift-inspired function, no one is allowed to enter without wearing red lipstick.
Give Everyone Who Attends Their Own Squad Name
Bonus points if you can get to a craft store to pick up T-shirts and puffy paint to make it official.
Count Down With Old Taylor Swift Videos
Start with the ones with the lowest YouTube views and work your way up to “Shake It Off.”
Only Serve Food From Taylor Swift’s Grocery List
No, this is not the grocery list of a 13-year-old girl — it is a list of items that Swift keeps close in her fridge. I imagine my fans will be particularly pumped about the thin-sliced ham.
Only Serve These Swift-Inspired Cocktails
Because they sound delicious and because they're fitting.
Bring The Outside In
It’s a song about being out of the woods, after all, so lots of living things would definitely be appropriate when considering décor. Your old stuffed animals totally count.
And there you have it. Standing among the trees, with everyone’s breath smelling like hibiscus, you will ring in the new year and celebrate the release of Swift’s latest video in style.
