13 Movies, TV, & People The 2016 PCAs Snubbed

With the Golden Globes and Oscars just around the corner, it's time to warm up with a show that should represent all of us this time of year — the People's Choice Awards. With so many categories and a populist attitude, you'd think that there's no way this could disappoint. Who was snubbed for a 2016 People's Choice Awards nomination?

I feel a little bit strange saying "What's wrong with you, people? Choose better." — but popular vote can snub deserving candidates just as much as stuffy critics and academies. Plus, since the nominations are in October, there are a lot of movies, shows, and stars that now define 2015 but weren't out yet at the time.

That's not saying that these awards aren't fair. There are a lot of ways in which they give a voice to content that doesn't always get taken seriously. The People's Choice Awards does actually treat television in a way that I think the Golden Globes and the Emmy Awards should take note of; they split categories into Network, Cable, and Premium Cable as well as Crime, Science Fiction/Fantasy, and Streaming shows. Not to mention Reality, Late Night, Daytime categories, and a few categories for new shows. There are so many categories, it's almost overwhelming. Still, that helps spread around the love, and matches the multiple genres that films are split into as well.

Still, as we go into the awards, here are a few things that seem to have slipped the people's radar.

1. Mad Max: Fury Road

The action film, which was nominated for a Golden Globe, isn't up for Best Action Movie or Best Movie Of The Year. That's shocking.

2. Adele

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm, what?!

3. Me & Earl And The Dying Girl

This was one of my favorite movies of the year, and it makes me sad that people didn't jump on it like I thought they would.

4. 5 Seconds Of Summer

They were breakout artist of the year in 2015, and now nothing.

5. Ant-Man

Sure, Avengers: Age of Ultron was the biggest Marvel movie of the year, but Ant-Man was so much fun, and hilarious to boot.

6. Parks & Recreation

It was the final season, come on! Even Brooklyn Nine-Nine should have gotten more nominations.

7. Caitlyn Jenner, Social Media

She broke records and has won awards for social media presence, so why wasn't Caitlyn Jenner nominated at the PCAs?

8. The Martian

This may well have been the comedy of the year. I'm just saying.

9. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2

It's insane to me that Insurgent and Scorch Trials were nominated but Mockingjay wasn't. Sure, it's not my favorite of the Hunger Games movies, but that isn't saying much — this is one of the most underrated blockbuster franchises out there.

10. Jessica Jones

Considering that when this show premiered, I was in at least five different message threads about it daily, I know it was popular.

11. Orphan Black

This show has an amazing fandom, where's the love?

12. Ryan Adams' 1989

My Facebook feed sure loved this for a solid week — were they the only ones?

13. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

OK to be fair, the nominations happened before the movie premiere and we knew nothing about the characters or the plot. Still, it's weird to see 2015's biggest movie get zero love from the people. In theory, they should dominate next year's PCA. All that set aside, the People's Choice Awards are going to be good this year. It's just too bad that not all of our faves made the cut.
