New Karaoke Songs For 2016 To Up Your Game

by Maura O'Malley

It's a fresh new year — a time to reinvent yourself, vow to live a healthier lifestyle, and most importantly, a time to pick a brand spanking new karaoke song to rock-out with for the next 12 months. That's why I've found the best new karaoke songs for 2016 so you and your squad can run that karaoke stage like Taylor Swift and Co.

I know that choosing a new go-to karaoke song is really hard. It is a delicate balance. You want something well-known, but not so popular that its sung 37 times a night (cough, cough "Don't Stop Believin'"). Also you have to work with what you've got. You could play it safe and choose a song that's well within your limited vocal range or you could push yourself, aim for the stars, and go full on Adele.

It is important to keep in mind when choosing a new tune that the best karaoke performances contain little touches that elevate the whole performance. Whether this involves grabbing your entire crew to join you on stage a la Miss Taylor Swift, or rocking air guitars like a '80s hair metal rockstar — one must be truly committed to the craft.

So, here are my picks for the top new karaoke songs for 2016:

"Hello," Adele

Pretty sure Adele released this karaoke-ready song at the end of 2015 for one reason and one reason only — so we would have all of 2016 to enjoy this song to its fullest, and that includes drunken renditions at karaoke bars. Thank you Queen Adele, you are so generous.

"Sorry," Justin Bieber

Sorry I'm not sorry that I intend to sing this song three times in a row while wearing a bulls jersey and dancing. I am a fully committed karaoke-fiend.

"Hotline Bling," Drake

You don't even need to sing the lyrics to this song — just dance like an old man playing table tennis and people will literally think they are watching Drake perform.

"Here," Alessia Cara

Who knew a song about social anxiety would make the ultimate sassy, cool karaoke song. Somehow, Alessia Cara does it and I'm in like with anyone who performs this song.

"On My Mind," Ellie Goulding

Everyone has been there — interacting with other humans is tough. Get some aggression out and sing this song like that badass you truly are.

"Bad Blood," Taylor Swift

The ultimate karaoke squad song today, tomorrow, and forever.

"I Can't Feel My Face," The Weeknd

I also can't feel my tongue, fingers, or lungs when singing. Stage fright is real.

"Same Old Love," Selena Gomez

Kiss goodbye to old loves in 2016 and say hello to your new favorite karaoke song.

"Ex's and Oh's," Elle King

The year 2016 is all about embracing your inner femme fatal. Don't let anyone hate you for playing the game. Let Elle King be your 2016 guide.

"Boys Like You," Who Is Fancy Ft. Meghan Trainer & Ariana Grande

This song is perfect for a trio of besties ready to take the karaoke stage by storm.

"I Know What You Did Last Summer," Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello

Karaoke is always the perfect opportunity to sing heartfelt duets in front of complete strangers.

"Cake By The Ocean," DNCE

Feel in the mood to show off your amazing dance skills while blowing people away with your high-octane vocals? Then Joe Jonas and his band DNCE has got you covered.

"Like I'm Gonna Miss You," Meghan Trainer Ft. John Legend

The year 2016 is one to bring some class back to a karaoke night and this song does just that.

"Focus," Ariana Grande

Ariana songs are not for karaoke novices. Proceed with caution with this song.

"Home Alone Tonight," Luke Bryant

Newly single in 2016? Then this song has your name all over it.

"Hideaway," Daya

No need to go on Tinder, consider this song the perfect public declaration that you are looking for a boyfriend in the new year.

Now the decision is yours — and pick wisely because 2016 is just beginning, and there are plenty of karaoke nights to be had.
