Hillary Lets Trump Know Exactly How She Feels

by Melissa Cruz

After her interview on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton may be asking Donald Trump, "Why are you so obsessed with me?" The sentiment, reminiscent of Mean Girls' Regina George, was made in Clinton's second appearance on the show, and as always, she was no stranger to the talk show couch. Clinton has made several appearances in the past, with her most recent being in September with Fallon at the show's helm. Last time, she treated viewers to a round of impressions and skits targeted at her main Republican competitor, Trump. During this evening's Tonight Show interview, Clinton offered one line Trump needs to hear.

Fans of Clinton's last appearance won't be disappointed this time, either — though it's hard to beat the former episode's mock telephone conversation between Clinton and "Trump," or Fallon plastered in some tanning spray and the real estate mogul's signature wig. But Clinton and Fallon have had several more months' worth of material to riff off of (because what has been the GOP campaign but a series of comedic gold for late night talk shows?), and with this episode, it really shows. Clinton joked about the campaign trail, her email scandal, and how Trump is "a lot more obsessed with me than I am with him."

It would do wonders for Trump (and really, the rest of the GOP candidates) to hear this line from The Tonight Show. It often seems that on the debate stage, the Republican candidates frequently forget that they are not only competing against each other, but also against Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley. They spend so much time attacking Clinton, it gets difficult to get to the meat of what they're saying behind those attacks, let alone their own policies.

Trump may take the cake as far as this obsession goes — in 2016 alone, he's already tweeted about Clinton on ten different occasions. Most of the tweets involve his fantasies that he's beating Clinton in the polls, when in fact, according to the latest figures released this week by the Wall Street Journal and NBC, she leads him nationally by 10 points. Trump also seems to have an obsession with Hillary's husband, former President Bill Clinton, and features him in a series of characteristically sexist tweets.

Clinton, on the other hand, said she prefers to not watch the GOP debates at all and catches up after they're over. When Fallon asked her, "You'll do anything to not watch the Republican debates?" Clinton replied, "I think you nailed that."

The real estate mogul would do good to take a note from Clinton on this one, too. Though, if he moved away from attacking Clinton and actually focused on his own work, the cracks in his campaign may just start to show.
