Who's Miley Performing With Now?

by Ivy Jacobson

It had to happen sooner or later, and it might as well be sooner just so we can get it over with. Miley Cyrus and Madonna will be performing together on Cyrus' MTV "Miley Cyrus: Unplugged" special. Madonna will be Cyrus' surprise guest. The two singers were on a Hollywood soundstage on Monday rehearsing their song for their first-ever performance together — but no word on what it is, yet. "Like a Prayer?" "Wrecking Ball?" A mashup version of "Like a Prayer" and "Wrecking Ball?"

Ever since the MTV VMAs last year, Miley has been on a streak to prove herself as an adult and the wildest child from the Disney bunch. The "Wrecking Ball" singer let fellow former Disney star Britney Spears know she was a huge fan, and collaborated on a song on Bangerz with her. Britney performed with (and kissed) Madonna at the 2003 MTV VMAs, and now that Miley and Madonna are performing together, their triangle of sorts will soon be complete.

"The performance will showcase a more intimate side of Cyrus and feature surprise guests for an unexpected re-invention of the songs that have defined her career, including several from her #1 critically acclaimed album, Bangerz," MTV says in a press release. "Miley and her fans have always had an intimate and direct connection through her music, personality and no-holds-barred attitude and the Unplugged stage will serve as the perfect platform for her to show viewers what inspires and ignites her music and her passions."

Oh, we know what ignites her, alright — and Cyrus does not need Madonna's influence to do so. Who knows — is Madonna ready for a crazy MTV night with Cyrus, or will she be as tame as her personality allows?

Whatever it is, I'm envisioning cowboy hats for both of them. Just please, ladies — no grills, for the love of God.

The special airs Wednesday, Jan. 29. at 9 p.m. E.T., and tapes Tuesday.
