The warm fuzzies of Feb. 14 have even reached Wisconsin's prisons, and one of its best-known inmates, Brendan Dassey, sent his Valentine's Day greetings to his supporters and family through Facebook. In an upload by his mother to a Making A Murderer-inspired Facebook group, Dassey is seen between his mom, Barbara, and his stepfather, Scott Tadych. "Brendan says Happy Valentine's Day to all his supporters and family," Barbara wrote, noting that the photo was taken on Sunday.
The post, which you can find in the group "Justice for Steven Avery & Brendan Dassey" after you've been confirmed as a member, has more than 500 likes as of early Monday morning as well as hundreds of responses sending Dassey and his family their best wishes.
The group has more than 60,000 members and continues to grow as the Netflix docuseries gains in popularity. More than 19 million watched the program in the first 35 days it was available on the streaming service. The group's description highlights that the group is for supporters of Brendan Dassey and Steven Avery who believe that the two did not receive a fair trial. The two are both serving time for the murder of Teresa Halbach, a 25-year-old photographer.
Avery has gotten the majority of the attention in recent weeks as a new lawyer has taken on his case and pushed for advanced testing that could exonerate him. But there is news with Dassey too — even if he's not getting the majority of the attention. Dassey was moved recently to another prison in Wisconsin, according to his cousin, for his own safety. He is now at Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin.
Meanwhile his appeal is still pending.
