Heidi Montag's Mom Joins Her On TV Again

Lifetime's new show The Mother/Daughter Experiment is one of those rare reality gems that comes around and blesses our lives every once in awhile. Basically, the premise is that famous reality TV daughters and mothers go through intense family therapy together, and we get to watch it. Among the mother/daughter pairs, you may see two pretty familiar reality TV faces. Heidi Montag and her mother from MTV's The Hills. But, who exactly is Montag's mom?

Well, Darlene Egelhoff is no stranger to the reality television world. She joined her daughter on The Hills and had quite a prominent storyline too. She greatly disliked Montag's boyfriend (now husband), Spencer Pratt. Or, as she now put it to Access Hollywood, she was "incredibly challenged and frustrated" by him. (Don't worry, they're all good now.) At the time The Hills was filmed, viewers saw this caused a lot of tension between Egelhoff and Montag, and it seemed like their relationship suffered at times as a result.

Viewers witnessed some of the tension between Montag and her mother on one episode of The Hills, in particular, when Montag underwent extensive plastic surgery. When she showed up to her mother's house afterwards, Montag asked her if she looked good, and Egelhoff got emotional, saying it was "weird" that her daughter had what Egelhoff viewed as a new face.

According to People, Montag and her mother's feuding reached a peak in May 2010, with the magazine reporting that Montag wouldn't let Egelhoff onto her property. "My mom showed up unannounced to my house when she knows I have no interest in seeing or talking with her," Montag told People. "She tore my heart out on national television. She is just trying to create drama in my life."

In August 2010, Egelhoff's business failed. According to another People magazine article, she owned a restaurant in Montag's hometown of Crested Butte, Colorado, but they went out of business in 2010 after 21 years. Despite their differences, People reported that Montag gave her mother money to try and save the restaurant to no avail. Egelhoff told People that she took up cleaning houses to pay her bills after the business closed.

As for how the two have faired since then? It seems they've been working on repairing their relationship as evidenced by them joining this show. I just hope that it goes better than their time on The Hills!
