One 'HSM' Character Who Needs To Return For 'HSM4'

by Jordana Lipsitz

Big news, everyone who watched the Disney Channel in the mid-'00s — the High School Musical franchise is adding a fourth sequel to its series! Though not much is known about the sequel as of yet (the Disney Channel has just posted an open casting call for talent, which leads me to believe they're looking to reboot the franchise with a new cast) or if any of the original cast will be back, I'm going to say it now: The one original cast member who needs to return for High School Musical 4 is Corbin Bleu, or, as he was known in the film, Chad Danforth. That's just my opinion, but I stand by it strongly.

The fourth part of our favorite Disney series returns to East High but with a bit of a twist. This time, according to E! Online, we will also get to know East High's rival, the West High Knights. Do I smell a Romeo/Juliet story?

The original Disney Channel movies came into our world in 2006 and starred Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Bleu, and many other fresh talents — so it will be exciting to see who they pull for this round of HSM. That being said, I'm still really, really, pulling for a Bleu appearance... possibly as a teacher? Or coach?

Disney Channel President Gary Marsh had this to say about the franchise:

"High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the 'High School Musical' franchise."

With that in mind, I have this to say: what good is DNA without a little of the past in this new movie? Sure, it will be nice to have all these new kids, but gimme some of dat old school HSM to really get my nostalgic heart pounding.

What I'm praying for is that Chad will have embraced his sensitive side — perhaps, as a drama teacher at East High? Or, maybe a home economics teacher, inspiring students to embrace baking? Chad is, without a doubt, the cutest character at East High (no offense, Zefron), and honestly, apart from the core three (Efron, Hudgens, and Tisdale), he's the most remembered. I think there's a lot that could be done with his character in this sequel, so it should be taked advantage of.

Come on, producers — I'm counting on you guys to do the right thing, which is to include Bleu's character, Chad. Please. Thanks.
