Cersei's 'GoT' Future Is Bleak

by Jordana Lipsitz

When Game of Thrones fans last saw Cersei Lannister, she was definitely not in the best place she'd ever been. The former queen had just been shamed and forced to walk with shorn head all the way to the Red Keep. The reason for it was her affair with Lancel Lannister, but while she admitted to that, she refused to admit that she'd been sleeping with her brother, Jaime, and as a result, was kept in prison where she was starved, forced to lick water off the floor. When she was released, she went on that bloody, naked, and probably quite chilly walk, before meeting with Kevan Lannister, Grand Maester Pycelle, Qyburn, and a mysterious golden-armored knight named Ser Robert Strong (re-animated Gregor Clegane) who carried her off to be her new champion. Now, she is preparing to stand trial for her crimes — but what's going to happen to Cersei in Season 6 of Game of Thrones?

Though I felt bad for Cersei after the whole public shaming, I can't help but wish her well. Yes, it sucks that she was treated so badly, but let's be real: she deserved it. Cersei is a horrible person who tries to control everything around her and doesn't actually care about anyone or anything, and while I don't know what's going to happen to her, a big part of me hopes it doesn't end well. The following are some ideas of where Cersei could be come the new season of GoT.

1. She Could Be Mocked In A Play

Essie Davis was cast as an actor portraying Cersei in a theatre troupe, who in The Winds of Winter perform a play called "The Bloody Hand." Season 6 will determine how the real Cersei handles this.

2. She Could Escape

Maybe that golden-armored Clegane zombie carried Cersei far, far away from danger. Personally, I hope not.

3. She Could Try For Some Vengeance

In a Wall Street Journal interview with the formidable actor who plays Cersei, Lena Headey, the star hinted that her character was going to be on a vengeance spree in Season 6. Said Headey,

"I don’t think she’s incredibly happy. I don’t think she likes very many people, even less than before, if that’s even possible. She’s made more enemies. I think she’s in a state of pure vengeance, but I don’t think it’s going to be straightforward because it’s her. It is exciting. If I don’t die."
4. She Could Enjoy Some Beach Time

Headey and the actor who plays Gregor Clegane, Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson, were spotted shooting on the beach in Croatia, she in full costume and rocking that short hair. Maybe Cersei is enjoying some calm at the beach. Or, she's in exile. Either option is possible.

5. Cersei And Olenna Tyrell Could Throw Down

These two matriarchs have always been frenemies, but according to an interview in Digital Spy with actor Diana Riggs, Olenna Tyrell has a "head-on with Cersei coming up and it's really good."

6. She Could Be A Part Of Cleganebowl

Yeah, both Cleganes, Gregor and Sandor, are technically dead, but does that really mean anything in GoT? One popular theory is that these two will be back and fighting to the death in a battle in which The Mountain represents Cersei and The Hound represents the Faith of the Seven.

7. She And Jaime Could Reunite

HBO released a few teaser images of the new season, and in this one, the twin lovers hug, wrapped in grief. This is because their daughter Myrcella is definitely dead, and Jaime is returning her body to King's Landing. Poor Myrcella — she didn't ask to be born into this dysfunctional family, or do have such a tragic death.

8. She Could Die

Let's be real here — Cersei's got it coming to her.

Only a few short months until fans will get to see what happens to Cersei, good or bad.
