Ariana Channeled Marilyn At The 2016 Movie Awards

by Marc Cuenco

She might still be a legend in the making, but Ariana Grande at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards looked like a Hollywood icon: Marilyn Monroe. The singer performed her latest hit "Dangerous Woman" in a pink satin gown and white fur stole during the pre-taped awards show on the evening of April 9. Grande's glam look was inspired by Monroe's "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" scene in the 1953 classic Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

While Grande has definitely switched up her style to promote her new album, fans were still surprised that she didn't go for the S&M bunny mask in "Dangerous Woman's" promo artwork. When she stepped on stage to perform with composer Jason Robert Brown and his orchestra, Grande wowed the audience not only with her vocals, but with her glamorous satin gown — featuring a sweetheart neckline and long train — worn with a stunning diamond choker.

Not only did Grande channel Marilyn Monroe, but also another blonde icon. Grande went full-on Madonna in the "Material Girl" music video at the MTV Movie Awards, which was a super sweet tribute to one of her showbiz idols. Earlier this year, Grande joined Madonna onstage as the singer's "Unapologetic B*tch" at her concert in Miami.

The resemblance is uncanny!

Style rebel Baddie Winkle also wore a pink and white fur ensemble to the show and slayed, just like Ari.
