9 Effortless Beauty Tips Lazy Girls Will Love

by Alexa Dragoumis

You know those girls who walk around wearing hardly any makeup with their hair tossed up into a seemingly effortless bun? They wear their hair natural, but somehow there's no frizz and their makeup is minimal, but their skin always seems to glow? I know their secret: They've mastered the art of the lazy girl's guide to effortless beauty and I'm about to teach you their bible.

While I have a love-hate relationship with these effortless beauty queens, I can't deny that their style is seriously envious. In fact, these nine tips are about to save you a whole lot of time and you're still going to look totally natural, yet effortlessly cool.

If you can internalize the "less is more" philosophy, that's a start. It's also important to recognize that this philosophy carries over into the way these girls dress. Their clothes are understated and they're accessorized minimally, but they always look put together. Think Olsen-twins-meets-Alexa-Chung.

But since dressing the part is fairly easy, we're going to focus on the beauty aspect because chances are, being perfectly primped is probably what you agonize over most in the mornings.

Ready to save some time? Here's what you need to know...

1. Familiarize Yourself With The Products That Work With Your Hair Type

Even on the red carpet, celebrities like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (the ultimate cool girls) are masters of air drying and ultimately, making their natural hair texture work for them. Consider using a texturizing spray or cream, or a mousse to help you use your natural hair texture to your advantage. Remember, it's all about creating an "I woke up like this" look.

2. Nude Eyeshadow Palettes Are Your Best Friend

Maybelline's The Nudes Palette, target.com, $9.99

Because it has the perfect mixture of matte and shimmery shades, one of my all-time favorite nude shadow palettes is Maybelline's The Nudes. For an effortless look, you'll want to stick to the lighter, matte shades.

3. Don't Overdo It With The Eyeliner

The great part about the effortless look is that you can actually skip eyeliner altogether, but if you feel like you need a little something, only apply it to the waterline.

4. A Good Foundation & Blush Are Key

In the video above, you'll learn how to create the perfect "no makeup" look, using a foundation that matches your skin and natural blush hues.

5. Highlight The Inner Corners Of Your Eyes

Highlighting the inner corners of your eyes will bring you a more awakened look without applying a full lid of shadow. While a light pink or white shadow is a great choice, my favorite highlight product is Benefit's Watts Up Cream to Powder Highlighter.

6. Use A Great Mascara

Since you're likely going to skip your eyeliner altogether, make sure you have a great mascara handy. This will give a feminine edge to your eyes without making it look like you spent hours getting ready. A great mascara is always worth the price — especially if it means long-wear and no flaking!

7. Embrace Your Dirty Hair

Dirty hair actually is great for creating the perfect messy bun or the "bedhead look". In the above video, Brianna shows us how to create that totally envious, effortless bun.

8. Don't Skip Lip Liner

Lip liner not only keeps your lipstick from smudging, but actually helps make it last longer. Part of effortless beauty is knowing how to define your features without overdoing it. NudeStix are my absolute favorite option because you can also use them as a blush!

9. Keep Your Eyebrows Tidy

Since your eyebrows frame your face, it's important to keep them tidy. Filling them in helps give them definition, which is important for those with lighter hair or naturally thinner eyebrows. Another member of the cool girl family, Cara Delevingne, always rocks a bold brow often with very little makeup.

Moral of the story? Define your features, stay away from contouring and heavy eye makeup, and dare to let your hair go au natural!
