15 DIY Last Minute Prom 2016 Hair Ideas

by Alexa Dragoumis

Prom is just around the corner, and chances are your hair salon is booking up — fast. But if you don't want to spend on a one-night-do or simply just don't know what you want your hair at all, you're in luck! I'm about to share the Internet's best last minute prom 2016 hair ideas through easy tutorials designed for hair of all different lengths.

Whether you're trying to impress your crush, going with your sweetheart or flying solo, you probably want to look your best on prom night. After all, you know your parents will be pulling out these photos for years to come. But part of looking your best means feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin. So, if that curly up 'do isn't for you, not to worry! There are plenty of other ways you can wear your hair.

The key to success is to pick a style that will make you feel really glam while also still being yourself. Oh and of course, you want to make sure it's going to stay in tact all night long — without feeling crunchy with hairspray!

Since I know you can't wait to start browsing, here are a few of the cutest and simplest hairstyles I could find:

1. The Romantic Side Bun

Before you begin, your hair should already be in loose curls. The soft, romantic look of this style is sure to go with any dress you choose!

2. The Date Night Braid

If you have long, mermaid-like hair, Amber Fillerup (otherwise known as "Barefoot Blonde") is the queen of perfect hairstyles. In this video, she shares a beautiful, braided look that is totally perfect for prom. Plus, the way she mixes the braid with a fishtail is genius!

3. Half Up, Half Down Braided Style

Even though Chaney has long hair, this would look adorable if you have short hair, too! And... notice how she uses the curling iron correctly – heat protectant and all.

4. Knotted Updo For Short Hair

If you're a no-fuss kind of girl and you have a choppy bob, this one is for you! You'll look cool-girl glam without looking like you tried too hard.

5. "Easier Than It Looks" Updo

Again, you want to start with loosely curled hair. But, the good news is, the curling is the most time intensive part of this sleek do.

6. Simple Romantic Waves

If you're like me and hair down is your go-to, this style can be done with long or short hair. Since Alli does her makeup first, scroll to about 8 minutes in and let her teach you how to create the perfect curl. Since her hair is short, she uses extensions and you can, too!

7. Prom-tastic Straight Styles

If you're not great with a curling iron, these straight styles are chic and easy. Once your makeup is done, tack on two minutes extra and that's all you'll need!

8. Ariana Grande Inspired High Pony

Need I say more? No matter where you're going, this look is flawless for any night out!

9. The Twisted Crown Braid

This is the perfect style to take you from prom to a more casual after party without messing with your hair. Plus, it's so easy and you could even twist the bottom into a messy bun later on.

10. Quick Side Updo

I absolutely love how Kayley twists the pieces in the front together! To get this style perfect, you might want to practice once or twice, but it's so easy that it won't take long.

11. The Twisted Updo

My favorite part about this video is the fact that she walks us through the teasing process. It's so important to have volume in the perfect updo!

12. The Pull Through Braid

This is quite possibly the coolest trick ever — especially if your hair has layers and you have a hard time making perfect braids because of it.

13. The French Lace Braided Updo

Love how this one almost looks like you added one of those braided headbands. Except the best part is you won't need one because it'll be your own hair!

14. Simple Bombshell Hair

If you want to wear your hair down, seriously...what better way than to create totally envious Victoria's Secret bombshell hair? In this short video, Dacey shows you how to create the perfect loose curls...almost as if you just paid for a blowout. All you'll need is a curling iron and some velcro rollers.

15. Front Row Bohemian Braids

Okay...one more from Barefoot Blonde because she is so amazing at hair. Whether you wear your hair straight or curly, this hairdo is perfect for prom...or any day really!

I hope you found these tutorials helpful and if you didn't have any ideas on how to do your hair before, you should have plenty now. I wouldn't be able to choose...they're all so beautiful!

Happy hairdo hunting!
