When Is Lin-Manuel Miranda Leaving 'Hamilton'?

by Amy Mackelden

Everyone's favorite musical right now is Hamilton, and it seems as though excitement for the show is only building. With a record-breaking 16 nominations at the Tony Awards 2016, Hamilton is the most nominated Broadway show of all time. As if that's not incredible enough, the show is a real fan favorite and is apparently raking in well over $1 million dollars a week in ticket sales. But, despite all of these ridiculously impressive accolades, it looks as though the show could be losing its star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda very soon. I hate to ask the question but when is Lin-Manuel Miranda leaving Hamilton ? If reports are anything to go by, it might be time to get your hands on some tickets to see the show immediately.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miranda "has told confidants he will depart the show July 9 to work on other projects." Bustle has reached out to Lin-Manuel Miranda for comment, but has yet to receive a response. These rumors are understandably hitting fans hard, and it could make tickets even more difficult to get hold of than they are already. With, allegedly, just over a month to go until Lin-Manuel Miranda's final performance in Hamilton, what does this mean for the composer's career?

Miranda has no shortage of projects coming up, which is likely the reason he's rumored to be leaving Hamilton. As a renowned composer and performer, he is in demand, and the recent announcement that he has secured a role in the new Mary Poppins movie alongside Emily Blunt is more than evidence of it. As well as winning this coveted role in the sequel to the Disney classic, Miranda has several other projects in the works.

Before Hamilton, he wrote and starred in In The Heights, his first Broadway musical which he wrote the music and lyrics for. It was recently announced that a film version of the musical is in the works, and Miranda is likely to be involved in some capacity in the production. And, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "he has seeds of an idea for a new musical." Whether or not Miranda is already working on something new will remain to be seen, but fans of his work would certainly welcome a brand new show from the prolific writer.

With so much work lined up, it's no surprise that Miranda is reportedly leaving Hamilton on July 9, 2016. The composer and performer will be greatly missed from future performances, but we can all take solace in the fact that we won't have to wait long to see him in one of his many upcoming projects.
