Miss Hawaii Handles A Tough Question Like A Boss

by Michelle McGahan

The personality interview portion of Miss USA 2016 ranged from questions about Muhammed Ali to inquiries about which presidential candidate a contestant would vote for. It was Miss Hawaii who was tasked with the "Hillary vs. Trump" question, and it's safe to say that she navigated the super tough query like an absolute boss.

The incredibly polarizing question, which was instantly met with loud boos from the crowd, was gracefully side-stepped by Miss Hawaii USA, Chelsea Hardin, who instead focused on what she would like our next president to accomplish — rather than picking a specific candidate. Smart move, especially since Trump used to own this pageant, so judges and viewers may have read into that answer even more.

"All I have to say, it doesn't matter what gender. What we need in the United States, is someone who represents those of us who don't feel like we have a voice," she replied. "Those of us who want our voices heard. We need a president to push for what is right and push for what America really needs."

It was an incredibly eloquent answer for being put in such an awkward position (and so incredibly on the spot!) It was such a quality response, in fact, that it immediately sent Miss Hawaii USA into the Top 3 finalists of the night.
