Get Ready To Be Terrified By 'The Conjuring 2'

by Jenn Ficarra

With The Conjuring 2's release rapidly approaching, it's only right to watch the original movie in preparation. Unfortunately, though, The Conjuring is not on Netflix to stream, and so the only way to get this coveted horror movie from the site is through the Netflix DVD-rental system. The good news is, however, you can rent The Conjuring on iTunes or Amazon, so there are ways to watch it and get prepared for the upcoming sequel.

But what's a horror junkie to do if they don't want to buy a movie, only stream it? Well, although The Conjuring isn’t available to stream, there are plenty of other horror movies out there available for your viewing pleasure. As fans know, The Conjuring isn’t just any old horror movie — it’s a terrifying ghost thriller, and so any replacement films need to be just as high quality. Luckily, Netflix has a wide array of great horror movies you can stream, ranging from the corny to the utterly terrifying. As I'm sure you're aware, it can often take more time to sift through the Netflix options than it does to actually watch your chosen movie, so I’ve taken it upon myself to recommend five of the best horror movies that Netflix has to offer. These films should, without a doubt, fill the void The Conjuring has left behind.

1. The Exorcist

The Exorcist is hailed as one of the best horror films of all time. This classic 1973 film depicts the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl, and her mother's attempts to get her back through exorcism. This movie will be sure to have your head spinning with fear.

2. Curse Of Chucky

Is there anything more terrifying than an evil, satanic doll? The horrifying Chucky doll is back, this time terrorizing the family of a paraplegic girl. Curse of Chucky will make you pee your pants from terror and then pee the second pair you changed into.

3. The Babadook

The Babadook tells the story of a mother and son who are haunted and terrorized by an evil entity. Lauded as one of the most terrifying movies of all time, this Australian horror film will raise the hairs on your arms and have you sleeping with the lights on for the foreseeable future.

4. Scream 2

A worthy follow-up to the beloved original, Scream 2, finds Sydney, now a college student, being hunted by a copycat Ghostface killer. This sequel ups the body and blood counts tenfold and will have you checking under your bed before you go to sleep.

5. The Taking Of Deborah Logan

What starts out as a documentary crew following a woman thought to have Alzheimer's turns into something far more sinister and terrifying. The Taking of Deborah Logan is clearly found footage done well, and is sure to scare you beyond recognition.

It won't be long before The Conjuring 2 is released on June 10. And until then? Watch these movies and prepare be scared out of your mind.
