'BB18' Makes Houseguests "Hit The Road" In Week 1

by Marenah Dobin

Summer may have technically started on June 21, but for me summer officially begins once Big Brother premieres. Thankfully, the show is back for Season 18 and host Julie Chen has teased us with some twists right away. Instead of competing as individuals, the houseguests have been divided into four teams of four. The team that won the first competition won safety for the first two eliminations. Then, the remaining teams competed for safety before Julie introduced the "Hit the Road" twist. But what does the "Hit the Road" twist mean for Big Brother 18 ?

Due to the lack of voting involved, it appears that Hit the Road is most likely just a one-time twist, and won't be happening every week, but here's how it works. Whichever team comes in dead last in the first competition is up for elimination. They then compete against each other in an individual competition. Whoever comes in last is automatically eliminated. Just like that: no social game involved. It's not a total loss for the last place team, though. The remaining three team members get to pick the new Head of Household.

Thanks to the first round of competitions in the Big Brother 18 premiere, we know that the team competing in the Hit the Road competition is Team Freakazoid, which includes Corey, Tiffany, Glenn, and Nicole (who returned to the Big Brother house after competing in Season 16).

The best part about Big Brother is the manipulation and social tactics, so I'm not sure how I feel about this first elimination coming down solely to ability in competitions. I want to see the houseguests start making some nominations and figure out which alliances will last. Hopefully, things will be back to normal next week so the competition can really heat up in the Big Brother 18 house.
