'The BFG' Voice Cast Is Gigantic
I don't know about you, but when I was younger, The BFG was one of my favorite books. Heck, who am I kidding? It's still one of my favorite books. Now, the incomparable Steven Spielberg is bringing the Roald Dahl classic to life, in The BFG, opening July 1. I'll admit — I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about the adaptation, as I always am when books I love are turned into movies. Can you blame me? But I knew that as long as the voice cast for The BFG was spectacular and the actor they chose to play the book's titular hero was special, that maybe, just maybe, the movie would have a fighting chance.
Luckily, with Spielberg at the helm, The BFG has far more than a fighting chance. I always trust this director to deliver, and deliver he did. Aside from casting newcomer Ruby Barnhill as Sophie, Spielberg enlisted some truly great names to round out the cast of giants and help bring this delightful tale to the screen. So, who can fans count on to bring these beloved giants to life? Get to know the many great actors Spielberg enlisted to lend their voices to the highly-anticipated silver screen adaptation of The BFG.
Mark Rylance As The BFG
Using motion capture, Rylance is more than just the voice of the BFG. He is the BFG. The actor recently won an Oscar for his role in Spielberg's Bridge of Spies and now, the two have teemed up again for some movie magic.
Jemaine Clement As Fleshlumpeater
Clement, one-half of the Flight of the Concords duo, previously voiced Jerry in Despicable Me and Nigel in the Rio movies. Now, the actor is the voice of Fleshlumpeater, the 50-ft. leader of the man-eating giants and the BFG's nemesis.
Bill Hader As The Bloodbottler
Fresh off lending his notorious and unique voice to The Angry Birds Movie and Finding Dory, Hader can now be heard voicing the Bloodbottler, the 50-ft. giant who is second-in-command to the Fleshlumpeater.
Adam Godley As The Manhugger
This isn't Godley's first foray into the world of Roald Dahl. He previously played Mr. Teevee in Tim Burton's 2005 imagining of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Now, he'll be lending his voice to one of the man-eating giants, the Manhugger.
Ólafur Ólafsson As The Maidmasher
Known for his roles in Lady Dynamite and The Last Witch Hunter, Ólafur can now be seen lending his vocals to the Maidmasher, another 50-ft. man-eating giant that terrorizes the BFG.
I, for one, cannot wait to see these incredible actors bring their giants to life. With a cast like this, The BFG is sure to be as magical as the book.
