When it comes to most things in the world of fashion and accessories, there are quite literally millions of options. So finding ways to successfully style sunglasses is often easier said than done, no matter how much fun you have choosing an outfit. Personally speaking, I'm always interested to see how models rock sunnies in street style images in particular; it gives me inspiration to put together looks in a way that's new and exciting without seeming, well, totally crazy. I talked to supermodel and all-around style star Georgia May Jagger at an event for Sunglass Hut, and she shared her love for sunglasses as a closet staple, her tips for styling, and of her first memories with some Patricia Fields sunnies.
"They were...ones with stripes that I got from Patricia Fields, and then they would change color when you looked in different directions," Jagger says of her first pair of sunglasses that she recalls as a favorite. These days, though, Jagger's favorite pair is different — although, still very fun. "These graffiti Ray Bans with paint splattered on them...by Mr. Brainwaish...I get compliments on them." While most of our sunglass collections probably aren't quite up to the speed of, say, a supermodel's, the amazing thing about sunnies is that they're an easy and generally affordable way to add variety and life to a closet, whether you're a fan of aviators, all about the reflective lens trend, or you buy a new pair of sunglasses every week (guilty).
"I always go for more wacky sunglasses," Jagger says.
As Jagger's love for crazier pairs (and her impeccable styling) proves, sunglasses are truly all about playing around and trying things out. And, in my opinion, that's the most important thing to remember. It's not about what seems to "go" or match in the outfit; it's what makes the most sense to you.
"I think that they can help you...kind of like jewelry, like shoes, if you mix them up," Jagger says of styling different pairs.
At the end of the day, like Jagger says, sunglasses are simply the cherry on top of a great outfit. Feel free to experiment, find a favorite pair, and mix and match your outfits with different glasses. Sunglasses are about having fun — not necessarily being on trend or ticking some kind of style box.
If you're inspired by Jagger's love of sunnies, and looking for a place to begin in terms of styling the accessory, here are some classic styles to give you a head start.
1. Ray-Ban Clubmaster

Whether you're rocking a vintage-inspired look or adding an edge to a trendy look, this pair is a great staple to have in your collection.
2. Burberry BE1499

A frame that echoes a cat eye shape is also a classic option to have on hand for styling.
3. Prada Aviator/Pilot

A retro aviator shape with a trendy twist is always a good idea in my book.
Classic shapes and styles are always a good starting point if you're new to the sunglass game, but the truth is that the options are pretty much endless, and like all the best fashion, there are zero rules. What's not to love?
