This 'Traveling Pants' Reunion Is Epic
Listen up, millennials and lovers of all things fun: A major reunion has just taken place. For a new, adorable Instagram post, the cast of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants reunited Friday, including Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, and Amber Tamblyn. I'd like to think that fate has a hand in what's happening in this photo, and that it was the pants' will that brought our favorite four girls back together — the will, that is, for a third movie to finally be put into production. I mean, just look at them! They're all so grown-up, but all still so close! I know it's been eight years since the last Sisterhood movie (2008 it was released — 2008!), but I think that that's just more proof another movie needs to happen. Just as the actresses are at different places in their lives, the characters surely are as well — it'd be compelling to revisit them as adults.
After posting on her personal Instagram account, Ferrera proved in the most adorable photo that her and Lively, Tamblyn, and Bledel are still just as close and adorable as they were when the first adaptation of Ann Brashares’ novel hit the big screen in 2005. Even after 11 years, somehow these four knew how much we needed some little bit of fate to hold onto.
Could a third movie actually happen, though? That's the big question. Throughout the years, many of the four have hinted at the possibility of a new installment, with Lively saying in late June during a sit-down on The Jess Cagle Interview, “There’s a strong chance there might be a third. The four of us are still best friends. To be able to create something together again has always been a dream of ours... but it would have to be something that really made sense. If you wait this long to do a third movie, it needs to honor the story and the legacy.”
The same mouth, Tamblyn also hinted at another film being possible, saying during an interview with E! Online, "I can obviously tell you that something is definitely in the works."
In addition, in 2015, Ferrera told PEOPLE, "There's a fifth book, and what's wonderful about it is, and the series to begin with, is that it's really raw and honest about friendship and how hard it can be and how it changes as you grow up... we love each other, and we love this series, and we are so proud of the work that we did together that it would be wonderful to come back at do another one."
Seriously, all this Sisterhood news is making teary-eyed. I just hope Costa and Lena are growing old together and the girls update their jeans to a boyfriend trend or skinny denim — because there is no way they will still be wearing low-rise, boot cut jeans.
