This Is How Kat Von D & Jeffree Star Met

by Augusta Statz

Internet drama pops up all of the time, but one of the latest issues hits close to home for beauty lovers. It all started when Kat Von D discontinued her lipstick "Jeffree," named for her long time pal (and fellow makeup entrepreneur) Jeffree Star, and announced she would be distancing herself from their friendship. Several publications have reported that the two go way back, but how did Kat Von D and Jeffree Star first meet exactly?

Their relationship dates back to when Von D was a tattoo artist. Star told Westword, a Denver-based publication, back in 2010, "I really wanted to start getting my beauty queens, like my Marilyn Monroe and Sharon Tate [tattooed]. After I sent the e-mail, Kat was like, 'Let's get this guy in here right now.' We really just bonded and have been best friends ever since."

Their friendship lasted through the creation of both of their cosmetics lines, but that’s also allegedly part of what has driven them apart. According to a video statement Von D released on YouTube, she is no longer associating herself or her brand with Star. She cites several of his alleged personal and business practices as the reasons behind her decision. Bustle has reached out to both parties for comment.

She posted to social media saying that she will also be discontinuing the “Jeffree” shade from her Everlasting Liquid Lipstick line, so the hot pink color will soon be no more. Star told PopSugar, "I will be recording my own video with the truth. I will not be responding to any media outlets so you can all feed off of negativity and make money off of our pain and miss truths [sic]. I understand you're just doing your job, so it's nothing against you but I want no part in this circus."

Von D mention in her video that many people met Star through her over the years.

Considering he has quite the tattoo collection, it's no surprise that's what brought these two together.

Especially since it was reportedly a portrait that Star was looking for. Von D's well-known for her portraits.

It wasn't just a love of ink that these two shared, they also were crazy about makeup.

She even named a liquid lipstick in his honor.

He's had success with his own cosmetics line, as well.

But, she's now announced her disassociation from the makeup guru.

Their longtime friendship and business dealings appear to have come to an end, for now.
