Who Is Simone Biles’ Sister?

by Emily Lackey

There really is nothing quite like sisters — especially the Biles sisters. Because Simone Biles and her sister are quite the inseparable duo. For every competition and moment in Rio, her sister has been present, cheering Biles on from the stands. But, who is Simone Biles’ sister? It turns out that this gold-medal winning Olympian is a bit of a softy when it comes to one thing and one thing only: Her sister, Adria Biles. Just take a look at her Instagram feed. Simone’s social media is littered with pictures of her little sister, and Simone is often the guest on Adria’s YouTube channel. (Although, it's much to Simone’s chagrin, it seems, because almost every single video starts out with Simone saying, “She’s forcing me to do this.”)

But I’m not entirely sure that “forcing” is the right word, because, when it comes to these sisters, it seems like Simone and her little sister, Adria would do just about anything for each other. Even when Simone was in the final months leading up to Rio, she was still there for her sister, a 17-year-old high school student who is a bit of a gymnast star in her own right. When Simone couldn’t be there to cheer her sister on at her regional competition, for example, she sent her love via Instagram, posting a picture of the two of them from a previous time.

But that isn’t the only way that Simone shows her love for her little sister. She also posted a touching tribute to Adria on Instagram right before she would go on to win Olympic gold. The picture was of the two of them with matching “Biles” jerseys on, and the caption read, “The greatest gift our parents ever gave us was each other.”

If that doesn’t make you tear up with sisterly love, I don’t know what will.

Especially considering that both Simone and her sister were adopted and raised by their maternal grandparents, the incredible closeness is even more of a tribute to just how amazing these young women are. It’s clear that through their entire life, they’ve always been there for and supported each other. And who knows. Maybe in the next Olympics, we’ll be seeing Adria performing right alongside her sister. If not, you can be sure she’ll be in the stands, cheering her big sister on.
