Out of all celebrity red carpet looks, Rihanna's red carpet outfits at the VMAs are the ones that I anticipate the most. The Barbadian singer always kills it and kills it in so many different ways. Whether through a goth-inspired alien look, full glamour style, or something way more casual, Rihanna looks absolutely perfect every time, IMO. And seeing as Rihanna is opening the 2016 VMAs, I'm sure her new look will be no exception to her slaying repertoire. I mean, RiRi is being awarded the Video Vanguard Award at the Aug. 28 ceremony, and it's definitely justified.
So to celebrate the star's rise to icon status both in music and style, I thought it only fair to track through the best Rihanna VMAs looks. This is not only because Rihanna's style evolution is a sight to behold, but because doing so proves that Robyn Rihanna Fenty has always been one stylish queen. Some of her early '00s looks may be questionable now, but we should still remember that she was bang on-trend back in the day.
As for nowadays, Rihanna is creating trends, not following them. This is why I'm on the edge of my seat to see what RiRi rocks to the new MTV Video Music Awards. While we wait, here are her best looks from the awards show to date.
What I love about this look is that she's rocking every single top trend of the early '00s in one outfit. TBH, if Rihanna was wearing low-rise white jeans, a pink crop top, and giant hoops again this year, I'd still think she looked super fashionable.
There's nothing that I don't adore about this Barbie fantasy that Rihanna served up in 2007. This singer doesn't shy away from bold colors and I love that about her.
This executive look that consists of short shorts, a low-cut blazer, and a matching fedora was hella chic in 2007 and exactly what you probably wish you could wear to work when your crush is on the same shift.
This simple yet chic knotted white maxi perfectly highlighted Rihanna's natural beauty, especially when paired with a pretty pixie cut and a red lip. Special shout-out to the glamorously low back of this dress, too.
This all-red ensemble was a stark difference to her red carpet look, and that's why I love it so much. The singer proved that she could kill it in more than one look on the same night. The leather pants paired with a sheer top were always going to be major though, right?
Here was Rihanna with Harry Styles, not giving a fraction of a care about looking glamorous. She was so dressed down that the ensemble became a look in and of itself.
With all these truly iconic and incredibly varied looks in mind, there's no way to predict what Rihanna's going to pull out of the bag for this year's MTV Video Music Awards. But one thing is definitely certain: Whatever RiRi wears, it's going to look absolutely amazing.
