Lena Dunham's New Book Is A Short-Story Collection

Girls creator Lena Dunham is a writer, director, producer, actress, memoirist, and now, fiction author. Lena Dunham's new book is a short-story collection, titled Best and Always, and is slated for release in 2017. Dunham is also the author of a 2014 essay collection, Not That Kind of Girl. On Tuesday, the author announced her big news in the most recent Lenny Letter and an Instagram post.

Lenny subscribers got a taste of Lena Dunham's fiction in 2015, when she published her first short story, "Six Sausages," in the newsletter. Another story, "I Love You, Natalie," followed the first. The Summer Fiction issue of Lenny features a third short story from Dunham, titled "The Mechanic."

On Saturday, Dunham bid farewell to Girls co-stars Zosia Mamet and Jemima Kirke, who finished filming their final scenes for the HBO series. Fans already knew that the show's sixth season would be its last, but that didn't make the goodbyes easier to bear. Girls Season 6 will air sometime in 2017.

I'm going to miss Dunham's series, and I am sure I'm not alone. Thankfully, we have Best and Always to look forward to. Although Random House has yet to announce a definite release date, Dunham assures her fans that the collection will be out next year.

As other writers have pointed out, Dunham's Girls character, Hannah Horvath, must be incensed at her creator's good fortune.

Keep your eyes peeled for Lena Dunham's new book, Best and Always, due in 2017.
