From here on out, Sept. 7 will forever be embedded into my brain as Leslie Jones' birthday. Sadly, I did not know the date of her birth until now. It is such a special day that everyone should celebrate. And if you don't want to, well then shame on you, because why wouldn't you want to partake in a much-deserved celebration for one of the most hilarious, kind, and inspiring famous faces of today? I mean, even Leslie Jones is celebrating her birthday and in exactly the way she should be. On Wednesday, the Ghostbusters star shared a photo of herself on Instagram with the caption, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!" She posted the same caption on Twitter, too. It's not very common for someone to wish themselves a happy birthday, but Jones is absolutely allowed to do just that, because she deserves to have an extra, special birthday in 2016.
Out of every celebrity this year, Jones has had one of the toughest years when it comes to racism, bullying, hate speech, and invasion of privacy. From her website getting hacked to the abuse she's faced on Twitter, the Saturday Night Live comedian has unfortunately faced some rough times. However, it always seems like she manages to block out the negativity and live her life with a smile on her face. The fact that Jones continues to offer so much love and joy to others through social media and for staying true to who she is speaks volumes. That's just the type of person she is.
All that said, in a lot of ways, the now 49-year-old also had a pretty fabulous year. For example, Jones will forever be known as the 2016 Rio Olympics' biggest fan. She even traveled to Brazil for a first-hand experience of the games and to meet the athletes. That in itself is something to celebrate.
Clearly, I'm not the only one who thinks Jones deserves to have the best birthday ever. Sprinkles sent her a bunch of cupcakes. You always need dessert on the day you turn another year older. If you can't tell by the video below, I'm sure you can tell by the caption how excited Jones is to devour every single Sprinkles cupcake.
Oh, and I have a feeling Jones is going to be eating those cupcakes while staring at this view from her terrace. Best birthday ever? Yeah, I'd say so.
Yeah, Jones can definitely wish herself a happy birthday wherever, whenever, and however she wants. She's earned it.
