Dreams Do Come True: Drake/Kanye Collab Is Coming

by Sabienna Bowman

The stars must have aligned just right because a Kanye West and Drake album is happening, people. Since West and Drake are basically the two biggest rap stars on the planet this is major news. Both Drake and West have been teasing a joint album since at least April, but in a new interview with Vogue, West revealed he and Drake are officially in the studio working on new music. Commence freaking out now. Of course, the big question is when will the West/Drake album be released? West would not reveal a date to Vogue, but knowing West the release will be a surprise right up until the moment it happens.

"We’re just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio," West said to Vogue. "We’re working on an album, so there’s some exciting things coming up soon."

Exciting is not the word for it. This is the collaboration to end all collaborations. Drake and West are not only going to make epic music together, they could also force a union between Apple and Jay Z's exclusive streaming service TIDAL. West has been trying to convince Apple to buy TIDAL, where he exclusively debuted his latest album The Life of Pablo, on Twitter. A Drake and West album means the two streaming outlets will likely have to work together to meet the demand of fans who are going to want to listen to this already legendary album the moment it drops.

Before the streaming specifics are worked out there has to be an album to release though. Just because West and Drake are in the studio already does not mean they are close to having a finished product. Both artists released new albums in 2016, so unless they are planning to pull off the most unexpected special release in music history, their joint album likely won't be released this year.

Both Drake and West are currently on tour (separately), which is not conducive to them recording your next favorite song. These are two men who know how to balance hectic schedules and side projects to make magic happen though. West is nothing if not prolific, and Drake did release two albums in 2015 — seriously, the Drake/West album could appear at any moment.

Stay vigilant, music lovers, the rap collab you have been dreaming of is on the way.
