Ciara's Miss America 2017 Dress Featured A Chic '90s Trend — PHOTOS

I love when the past and present collide. We're getting ready to crown Miss America 2017. But that didn't stop one of the judges from going with a really "retro" accessory for her red carpet look. Singer Ciara rocked a totally '90s trend on the 2017 Miss America red carpet — the choker. It was an unexpected choice to pair her off-the-shoulder, cream-colored, and peplum dress with gladiator heels and a simple, matching, thin choker. Ultimately, the necklace was the perfect accoutrement, since it didn't compete with the dress, which had an architectural and busy presentation, or those statement booties. The newlywed also opted for simple, neutral makeup and a center-parted, majorly sleek blowout. It was a smart decision to go for streamlined with her hair, makeup, and jewelry, since her frock had quite a futuristic vibe.

Chokers have certainly asserted themselves as the necklace of 2016. Remember when Kim Kardashian wore a wrapped, cross choker to a friend's wedding earlier this summer? Chokers are easy, stylish, and sexy. And they are having a moment. I fondly recall the dominance of chokers during the Beverly Hills, 902010 and Melrose Place eras. But I love that trendy celebs are keeping the choker in visible rotation.

Observe Ciara, her epic dress, which was a Julea Domani by Zeena Zaki creation. and her matching choker.

Her ensemble was monochromatic but it certainly wasn't boring. Those heels, though! It was all about the details with Ciara's Miss America 2017 red carpet outfit.
